Uber-Fan Ian Levine Throws Down with Simon Cowell

Doctor Who uber-fan and JNT-era consultant Ian Levine contributes to a Daily Fail profile of American Idol's Simon Cowell.

Levine's throwdown wasn't as epic as Harlan Ellison's throwdown with Frank Sinatra, nor was it written of half as well as Guy Talese's "Frank Sinatra Has a Cold."

Doctor Who does get a mention at the end of the article on Cowell, specifically Levine's animated reconstruction of "Shada." Billie Piper also gets mentioned in the article, but her connection to Who is not.

I had no idea that Levine was a music producer, etc. I've only ever known him for his Doctor Who work. I'm surprised a bigger deal wasn't made out of his connection to Billie Piper back in 2005.

Interesting article. It figures that it would take someone as egotistical as Ian Levine to match Simon Cowell blow-for-blow.

Levine echoes a lot of points that I've heard over the years about American Idol and how bad it's been for the music industry; nice to hear it coming from an insider for once.
