U2's No Line on the Horizon (listen now)

This is the only thread I could find on the new U2 album. I figured we'd keep going from here, rather than start a new one.

Okay, here's 1001001's official listing:

No Line on the Horizon: Great song. One of the best on the album. I love this style. Kinda reminds me of Zoo Station. Bono's vocals go way back to October-style.

Magnificent: Great song. Classic U2 guitar work and vocals. Cheesy keyboards could have been left out.

Moment of Surrender: In the immortal words of Homer Simpson, "BORRRRRIIIIING!"

Unknown Caller: Interesting and different. Church-y keyboards. "Reboot Yourself" is not a good lyric.

I'll Go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight: I like this one. Nice little rocker.

Get on Your Boots: Decent song. Most energetic, upbeat tune on the album.

Stand Up Comedy: Good song. I like the guitar sound on this.

FEZ-Being Born: Meh

White as Snow: Double Meh

Breathe: Great song. "Running down the road like loose electricity" is a good lyric.

Cedars of Lebanon: Snorefest 2009.

So yeah, on a song-by-song basis, it's a pretty good album. But it's not...BIG. Remember when U2 was BIG? This album is just like the last one, without the epic hit to start off. Everything's just kinda mid-range, 4 minute pop/rock. No big ideas, no big music.

It's a solid effort, but I wouldn't even put it on the same shelf as Joshua Tree, The Unforgettable Fire, or Achtung Baby.

I haven't been able to listen to the whole album, yet. I like the first two, then I hit forward>> on my player until Get On Your Boots, then forward>> again until I'm back to track one. :(

Church-y keyboards? As in the religious institution or the Australian band? I'll have to try to not fast forward through it. The Church [Australian band] have a new album out. That's my next purchase.

No, no. Like praying on Sunday, church organ. That's what I meant.

Take a stop at Stand Up Comedy and Breathe. They're both good songs, IMHO.

"Get on your boots" was the only song available when I clicked.
It was okay, but nothing special for me.

J.

If you are are in the UK, you can listen to the whole album as much as you like on spotify.

Wow, do I feel old and busted.

U2 comes out with a new album and nobody wants to talk about it?

Guess I'll go back to my cassette tapes and live a solitary life...

;)
