U.S.S. Quasar Bridge

BolianAuthor

Hi, all...

A friend of mine from Sci-Fi Meshes.com, tnpir4002, was gracious enough to take on a Bridge project for me...

I wanted the Bridge of the U.S.S. Quasar (Nebula-Class), from my "Star Trek: Entomalians" fanfic rendered in 3D.

The Bridge is basically the same as the 1701-D Bridge, as seen in the episode "Future Imperfect", with a slight modification... I replaced the "coffee dispenser" thingy with something a bit more visually flowing and appealing, in keeping with TNG design ethic.

I designed a new column panel, with wood matching that of the tactical horseshoe, and added a vertical line of black glass running down the middle, behind which can be seen the iso-linear chips. Above that part, is the thin red alert light strip, and the yellow 2-view ship drawing or the commissioning plaque, depending on what side of the Bridge you are on (I know the ship image is on the wrong side, but I didn't have a plaque handy, so it's a placeholder).

More renders to come. Let me know what you think!

Again, special thanks to tnpir4002, and Joe Ralat!

Nice, although personally I always envisioned Nebula-class bridges to be decked out in "Intrepid grey" with the usual TNG wood trim...

Thanks, guys.

I've always loved TNG's colors, and personally, my favorite colors are the beige to tan spectrum, so I love the colors on this Bridge... especially the 2-tone seats.

Gotta love TNG's use of wood. :D

Thanks. :)

More renders are on the way. The iso-linear storage unit will also be elongated, so that it extends more towards the floor. I think it looks a bit too short, as-is.

Sometime it would be cool to have a bridge image for my ship. But I'd have to decide how I'd want it arranged.

Yeah... the more you can flesh out your design, the better.

After this project, tnpir4002 will be doing another Bridge for me... this one based ENTIRELY on an original design by myself, a Bridge for the Cheyenne-Class U.S.S. Zodiac, also from my "Star Trek: Entomalians" story.

I will also post those images here. :)

It's a very nice beginning. I notice you're using the Season 1 Captain's chair from TNG with the flip-top armrest controls (it ends up being exiled to the Battle Bridge).

It does look like the Enterprise-D bridge with very minor tweaks. I am sure one can do something a bit more original based on the fact that the Prometheus and Sutherland bridges were so different.

dru; Yes, I MUCH prefer the Season 1 Captain's chair to the one with the lights on it we got later on in TNG. I just like the idea of having flip-up panels on the arms, and the wooden accents look nice on the TNG bridge, with those colors.

Captain X; Could not agree with you more. The Nebula and Galaxy Class ships both have identical saucer sections and bridge modules, so it makes sense they would share the same floorplan. It would save Starfleet "money" in production and design costs, to have identical modules, that can be "hot swappable", at a moment's notice. Think of it as standardized parts... standardized bridges! :D

Wouldn't have been cheaper to redress the E-D bridge in those episodes instead of rebuilding an entirely new set, or would that have been more trouble than it was worth?

Rick?

I wish more people did Trek interior design stuff like this. It's a passion of mine. I love it.

WOW...talk about high gloss on that horseshoe rail. While it looks cool as is, it would actually be a little more realistic to tone that down a touch.

Just out of curiosity, why don't you have the side stations they added in Generations? I think that made the bridge look a little more functional than it did in the series.

Things I liked about the TNG Main Bridge set:

1: the overall lighting, and spacious feel
2: the cool, sportscar-like helm and ops stations
3: the aft roll-in science stations

What I hated:

1: That silly horseshoe with its fake bark trim
2: the lack of use of the sides of the set made it waste space; a very unprofessional feel

I suppose if you wanted your Nebula-class bridge to emulate the Enterprise-D feel, you are very close here. I think it would be neat to try re-arranging the bridge to give mix things up and try a different feel. Like instead of a horseshoe, try moving the captain's section forward, put the helm and ops up behind the captain, and put side stations in next to the viewer. Also, try a different lighting sceme, ditch the fake bark and try a different wall color scheme, maybe something darker.

Thanks, all...

Ziz, I never really liked the Generations side stations that much, but I'll admit, I am going to use that bridge for the Galaxy-Class ships in the story... but since this is a Nebula-Class, I wanted something just as luxurious, but toned down a bit.

The bright lighting is intentional... as are the colors... I wanted to exactly duplicate the beiges and tans, and lighting of 3rd and 4th season TNG.
