U.S.S. Batavia Mess Hall panorama

Clawhammer

Commander
Red Shirt
I completed my last model/background for Dark Armada. (A Dutch fan series.) I had a great time doing their interiors but I want to move on to new stuff and seriously improve my modeling/texturing skills, something I can not do when a lot of deadlines are breathing down my neck. :)

To end my DA adventure I decided to render a panorama shot of the Batavia's Mess Hall. See it here

Wow! How many hours went in to that beauty? I love the design and layout. There's something almost dreamlike about it.

You should be using those mad skills of yours to design upscale nightclubs. Really nice work!

Hmmm, a Trek nightclub...wonder how well that would work out :p

Have to add though, as the others do, that this is an awesome piece :techman:

I didn't know the VoC was still active in the 24th Century. ;)

Batavia, great name for a ship in any case.

As for the mess hall, I would certainly have a drink there.

Thanks!! :)

Besides of 2 problems I'm quite happy with it.
(1 pixel line artifact in the windows, probably a reflection, but it just looks odd.)
It also seems that the renderer has problems keeping a low quality light setup "level" on all 6 images. It creates stitches. But that wont be a problem for the the renders made by the DA team, as they will not stitch images anyway.

I'm moving out of the 2380 era for the next 3 months. I will be working in 2120/30, the UESPA/Early Starfleet era. I started yesterday with a Starbase.

First:

That's incredible. Second, have there been other sets done for this fan fiction? I'd love to see more, even if they aren't panoramas.

Wowzers! Makes a guy want to order up a big ol' bowl of Plomeek soup and pull up a chair!

Thanks everyone!!

Martin: I agree, KEY them in please! (No 3d substitute for the real thing!) A certain Bar comes to mind... ;)

Felixofgolden: 3ds max 2009. I used Mental Ray (the renderer that comes with it) for the image. I normally render with Brazil2, but for DA I always used Mental Ray, it works quick and has an excellent set of materials that I probably overused. For my spacestation I'm back on scanline again, part of a second learning curve so to speak. :)

Captain: I'm hungry now! It's 0:46 in the night, and I want soup! lol

sbk1234, rated by myself:
The Mess Hall: (good quality)
The Readyroom (good quality)
The Bridge (medium quality)
A shuttle interior (medium quality)
Main Engineering (medium/good quality)

Cool. Your work is very impressive.
I've been looking at a 3rd party app called sIBL (Smart IBL) for creating global illumination schemes based on panoramas. I use Lightwave myself, and they already had a script for LW. But for now they have stand alone app for 3d max, maya and so on.

I don't know how useful it would be for space scenes though... but if you're doing ships landing on a planet or whatever it may be something to look into.

@Mark: If only I had a tin-opener I would open a can of Roller Girls to serve us! But hey, wait! *slowly a big smile appears* You can send me your buurmeisje!
