U.S.S. Assail

It's just sort of a small exploration vessel. Only nine stories. Some of thee pictures turned out better than before.

Even though the ship has held together very well, it's starting to fall apart; colors fading, tape kind of peeling, parts dropping and no longer stay put.

As you can see, there is no neck. I had a concept photo of Voyager from a TV Guide (I still have that issue, too) and even though I had not seen the show, I experimented. Not that I particularly like no-neck ships, it's just that necks were harder to make, harder to prop up saucers, and all my ships with necks are now broken.

I am NOT a fan of the stumpy warp nacelles. But besides that, I think this design is fantastic. I'd love to see a more polished version of it.

I am a fan of stubby nacelles, as the tech improves they should get shorter.

tharpdevenport, what do you figure the dimensions to be? By the lifeboat hatchs (if that's what they are) it doesn't seem too large.

The short nacelles were a gimmick I called "compact nacelles" -- wherein a standard, for example, Galaxy-class nacelle has been perfected into a compact size. I thought they looked neat, plus they were easier to do; large nacelles tended to break off. Though I do have one different ship with unusual large nacelles the likes of which I haven't seen before -- maybe that for another week.

T'Girl, you mean the model dimensions or what it would be in real life? The ship itself is nine decks high. If we go by an Intrepid-class ship, with a height of 64.4 meters, for an average of 4.29 meters a deck, that makes the Assail 38.61 meters in height and a loosely estimated length of 317.46 meters (in other words, about 74 stories from bow to stern -- with stern beign the end of the warp nacelles).

The escape pods -- the tan squares are what I refered to as extra large escape pods, where maybe three people could fit in.

The Enterprise J has long Nacelles. I'm sure certain ships are designed with smaller nacelles, like voyager, and the defiant with her integrated nacelles. But It is also up to the Creators imagination. I think it's great. Some of the ent D concept art had the ship looking like it does in the show, but with longer nacelles. :)

The short nacelles are certainly justifiable from a technical perspective. I'm not arguing against that. But I think they throw off the visual balance of the ship, that's all. Makes the ship look front-heavy.
