Tyr's Work

Hi, I'm new to the board. First of all, no, I'm not a big Andromida fan, I've had that nickname from before that show even came out.

If I'm putting these in the wrong board, just tell me. I have a ton of designs that I've put on other boards and I was looking for more feedback. It seem that there are many engineering minded on these boards. Please keep in mind though that some things are just for style on my ships, but I do come up with treknobable to justify them. All that said, please give me any feedback. You don't have to be gentle either, but keep in mind I already know my artwork isn't the best and would prefer feedback on the designs themselves (unless you have a specific suggestion on the art side).

This ship is a 'scout' in my head. It has the same type of impulse trail masking tech as the Defiant on it's main impulse system. It also has secondary impulse systems, enhanced thruster and braking engines, and robust bulk heads.

The second ship is a thru deck carrier. The size of it has been of great debate.

I like the carrier, Tyr, but the scout feels too Klingony for me. Why is the scale of the carrier subject to such debate? Surely the size of the lifeboats will seal the argument.

Yes, but people think that it's too big. They don't want anything bigger than the Galaxy class. I've changed the life boats and bridge a few times. At one point, it had the Galaxy type bridge.

Your nacelles have odd proportions (for my tastes): they seem too thin in the first design, and just too small and taper too much in the second design. It make the designs, especially the second one, look very front heavy.

This might sound silly, but what does the Achilles look like? I mean, I'm guessing like my first ship there, but I don't remember seeing it in the shows.

Yeah, the Langley went through a lot before ending up looking like a huge Steamrunner. Here is my original sketch.

And the second redraw of it.

It went through about six other redraws before getting to the way it is now.

[edit] Just googled Achilles, and it is a nice looking ship, that does look a lot like my 'Kaze'. They are drastically different sizes though, and the impulse engines on my ship don't vent directly onto the nacelle pillions. Thanks for the compliment!

Do you all think the Langley is too big? As she is now, she is about 150-200% the volume of the Galaxy, although by mass they aren't all that different. Some people have expressed concern about that. Something about the Defiant being able to fit inside a ship being a bad thing.

Thanks for the feedback. I've never been entirely pleased with the nacelles either.

I have another set of drawings for a species I'm calling Talnir. They use ring warp, and in bedded warp coils, as well as something I've been playing with called 'warp spheres'. These ships are NOT to scale at all with each other. The one with all the little arm things is actually a city ship. This is a large file (1.3MB). I'm told the fins on the scout ship (top left) don't fit in, but they fit the race concept. They are a spaceborn, nomadic race. They don't have great weapons, but they have good sensors (like the ones on the scout's fins), good gravitational control, and great computer power/interface.
