The downtown cinema here in New Haven CT
is showing midnite screenings tonite (Friday)
and Saturday of TWOK.

Wrath of Khan on the big screen. Awesome.

As Seinfeld said,

Did you go? If so, what was it like to see TWOK on the silver screen?

I would love to see the nebula battle on the big screen.

Of course I went.

I correctly anticipated that the film would be a bad print. It was.
Very scratchy and muddled reels, sound (particularly music) was near-grammar school projector levels.

OTOH, it was TWOK on the big screen. Still tremendous.

Despite having seen the film thousands of times, this time I noticed all kinds of things...
Genesis Cave details stood out. Ceti Alpha V landscape, effects, cargo bay details. Console detail on the Regula One transporter was a highlight I never saw before. Cloud movement in the Mutara Nebula that I never noticed before.

And yes, the battles sequences were phenomenal. Many many details and images of both ships that I suppose can't be noticed except on a forty foot screen.

Overall, I was not disappointed. Really, how could I be?

...except for TV cameraman Gayne Rescher's flat, muddy, grainy cinematography caused by his employing the deadly combination of high-speed Fuji stock and anamorphic lenses (with which he had absolutely no previous experience).
