Two Yous (Kelvin verse)

Laura Cynthia Chambers

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Light streams into the shelter.

Spock yawns.

McCoy stretches his arms over his head. "Y'know," he groans, "you had it pretty good while the Ambassador was alive."

"We all benefited from his wisdom," Spock replies. "In which way did I profit specifically?"

"One, the man was a living archive." McCoy holds up one finger, then a second. "Two, I'd be willing to bet nobody else will ever understand you the way he did."

Spock inclines his head. "Indeed. Despite our very different circumstances, I found him to be most insightful."

McCoy's mouth curves in a small smile. He glances upward, then back at the Vulcan.

Spock tilts his head to the left. "Number 3?" He shifts slightly, wincing.

McCoy chuckles. "3, you could talk to yourselves at length without being accused of being crazy."

"Hmmm." The corner of Spock's lip twitches. "4." He holds up a finger. "I regret that he is not here now. I believe he would have appreciated your observations, Leonard."

McCoy smirks. "Smart man."

Spock nods. "Thank you, Doctor."

McCoy's brow furrows. "You do know I was referring to him, right?"

"Yet not a moment ago you described us as 1. Which are we, Doctor; 1 man or 2?"

McCoy snorts. "I wanna get mad, I really do...but that was pretty good."

Spock lifts an imaginary chess piece. "Checkmate."
