Two scenes from my superhero short film "Fallen"

Here are two select scenes from my short film entitled Fallen. The story centers around a superhero named Ephraim who has turned his back on the city that he swore to protect. I directed the film and it is currently in post-production.

Thoughts are certainly welcome!

that city block looks very familiar, like straight out of the dark knight haha

looks pretty good, I dunno why but that 2nd scene reminds me of Kick-Ass, where he is trying to protect the guy from getting jumped. Did you guys shoot on the RED camera?

Excellent camera work on the action scenes. You might want some reaction shots during the confrontation, your hero is pretty much out of frame and it's a really long exchange.

Thank you guys for your responses! ObiWanShinobi, we did use the RED camera. How could you tell? And we indeed shot on LaSalle, by the Board of Trade, right where they shot the convoy chase for The Dark Knight.

Thank you beaker for those encouraging sentiments and helpful advice. I'll definitely make sure to have some reaction shots for the final cut.

an aspiring film maker myself. let's just say i'm somewhat in the industry but mostly just edit for a marketing company nowadays though. Somewhat an enthusiast as well and RED is a great camera for indies. That or anything with a 35 mm cine adapter.

Excellent use of the BTVS cue during the battle. I wouldn't have faded it out though. I would have edited it a small bit so the heroic music continues over when they look out, then edited it again so some of the ending tender piano music plays and that last unresolved piano note that ends the cue, ends the scene.

Very cool. We did use a Mini35 Adapter for my last short film Wake, so I agree those are very useful indeed.

Yeah, I was surprised and relieved that the musical cue worked out so well. I'm working with my composer right now on the score so I'll definitely show him your notes. Thanks.

Wow! I'm impressed..it looks like a pilot to a new Heroes type TV series!

Thank you very much! Very appreciated.

I don't speak French. Merde.

Read some of those comments in the comment section -- someone people are just plain melon heads.

Yeah, I mean when you put work out there, you basically open yourself up to criticism, whether it is warranted or not, so I should have been expecting it. At this point, I'm honestly just glad people are watching it and taking the time to pay it attention.

Take it from a guy also in a creative field...the worst response is silence, indifference.

And this is the interwebs...fulla douchebags who LOVE to piss on people doing things things they wish they were doing, but don't have the talent/money/nads. As long as they don't have to do it to your face.

Don't let 'em see you sweat. Thank them for their attention and ask them if they want a free decoder ring.

:D

Two trains of thought on that: do your own thing and everyone else can go screw themselves, or listen to what even the most uneducated and inarticulate of the great unwashed think. Their visceral reaction may be indicative of some real value or flaw. On the other hand, the great unwashed hate Shakespeare. So...
basically I have nothing to contribute here.

Great stuff, JacksonArcher! Hope you're available to take over Batman when Chris Nolan calls it a day... ;)

Oh, you flatterer you! :p

And I get what you're saying beaker. I appreciate the sentiment.

Yeah, it's one of those double-edged swords; you need the criticism to improve, but it is hard to see what is actually helpful.

I'll check it out when I get home.
