TV; The kids learn

For kids..

And I don't mean Sesemee Street or Dora or Wiggles (all of which I loved to watch with my son when he was that age)

I mean show, like Emergency, which I mentioned in another thread. My kids, 5 and 14, love to watch this old show. They recently saw one where a kid died from eating poision. Thats pretty deep for a kid to see, but it sure scared some sense into my kids. The also have how to treat scrapes, cuts, and other things they deal with..

My wife is in the medical field and loves to see if the show follows reality when putting out the medical lingo, and for the most part, they do. ADAM-12 is another show kind of like this.

can you think of other TV shows that you watched that perhaps were not meant to educate kids, but did in some kind of backdoor way?

M*A*S*H. I learned a lot from that show. My parents were newlyweds during that time--my Dad was on his way to getting sent to Korea, as a Marine, but for some reason, his unit was called back.

I would watch that show with them, and ask about all the pop-culture references: Adolf Menjou, Patti Page, etc. I also learned about anatomy--the parts of the heart and intestinal tract--different illnesses, like dysentery and hemorrhagic fever.

Every time something would come up that I didn't know, my Mom would explain it to me.

That is a good one. I was watching Mash (I love the episodes before TRAP/Henry left) and my daughter, who is studying Korean war, found it interesting to see a TV show based on a war that..and I quote her..happened a LONG LONG LONG time ago...geee!!!!

There a show in the UK called casualty and from time to time you get a kid in the paper who has saved someones life after seeing something like CPR on there.
There a 2 year old in the news today who rang for a ambulance for her mum after seeing it on the tweenies.
The 999 operate sounded a little shocked when the little girls say's her age:lol:
