Round-up...

Well what a state TV is in just down down down for 90% of the shows from last year but there are some good news out there. Bones easily won the 8pm slot and reached a season high by breaking 10 million though I would of expected a slighly higher demo with those numbers but still good. I don't care how cheap Til Death is, FOX must end the show after the current season or even mid season since Idol returns meaning the Fringe/House partnership will most likely be broken up and Idol will take up slots on Mon-Thurs to begin with.

Private Practice is a total flop and cannot afford to drop any lower if it expects to get a 3rd season. ABC must move it to 10pm and partner it up with Greys to save it because it needs a strong lead in to boost its ratings. Pushing Daises can kiss its own ass goodbye if it cannot beat Knight Rider & only just beats Top Model's demo score. Dirty Sexy money has ZERO chance of a 3rd season too, dam that strike last season ey. HEY ABC still a good idea to cancel Boston Legal ? I think not

Both CBS comedies are on the chopping bloke but IMO, The New Adventures of Old Christine can be saved if returned to its old 9:30 Monday slot since Worst Week demo is the lowest on that night and drops too many viewers from Two & Half Men...an issue Old Christine never had so why lose 3 comedy shows when 1 can be saved. Criminal Minds and CSI: NY make a perfect partnership and CBS is the network being less affected this season.

Rumors are that Knight Rider will be given a full season order due to how its doing compared to other NBC shows and if it can get 7 million+ for majorty of the season then it will get a 2nd season however anything lower will leave it in 50/50 land (should be getting a higher demo IMO). The Biggest Loser is ok because cheap to make but Lipstick Jungle, which I called the worst decision last year when they renewed it is DEAD.

Next Top Model is down from a year ago but still very good for CW though I would love to see how well 90120 would do with an original episode if it was moved to partner the reality series.

Knightrider looks to be going the way of Bionic Woman

Til Death, is FOX trying to self harm? does it enjoy the pain it gets from those ratings?

Soon to be axed: Gary Unmarried, Til Death, Lipstick Jungle & Pushing Daisies

Things the networks might try & save: The New Adventures of Old Christine, Dirty Sexy Money & Knight Rider.

Man the ratings this year are just awful for almost everybody! That's a shame about Pushing Daisies, it's a cute show, but it's also so saccharine I don't think I'll miss it too much ;) Not to mention the entire non-romance story with Chuck just feels like the show should have an incredibly short shelf-life.

I've read though that DVR and Online viewing are up.

If I was a network I would consider online viewers because of course you can place ads in your websites but I do think the current TIVO system for example needs changes for networks to really take them seriously. I made a rant on mondays ratings

Very disappointed about Dirty Sexy Money. I love that show.

I have no idea why it gets such crappy ratings - it's a well written and original show with a great cast of very good actors.

Must be it's competition. Those CSI shows just suck in the viewers.

^ I'll have to read it.

TIVO is one of the greatest inventions for customers but its killing Live TV and quick. The problem is we all know that no one watches Adverts so the solution would be to make TIVO's that don't allow you to skip during ad breaks to make it just like you are watching Live TV but am sure people would complain so my answer would be to those wind bags, DON'T FUCKING complain when your shows get canned.

The only way networks will truly take note of DVR viewings if the new techs like TIVO are made so they make it just like watching LIVE TV so you have to play the ad's or at least some ad's so networks can make money still of this style of watching or in the end the networks will simply not care at the numbers and will cancel shows, which otherwise would be saved by DVR numbers.

Can the tech be done like that I don't know and will TV fans take that kind of bullet to save there shows ? probably not

Even last season I was thinking PD really needed to have more of an edge. Keep the sweetness and gaudy colors but every so often, go really dark or perverse (they do that a bit anyway, it needs to be more pronounced). And there needs to be a running conflict of some sort that is sharper and more important than Chuck's aunts finding out she's alive. It's very hard to keep reminding myself that that even matters. :rommie:

What would really matter: if everyone in the PD world were to find out that Ned can resurrect the dead. That would throw everything for a loop. Would he be arrested as a public hazard? He's already murdered one innocent bystander by not re-deading Chuck. He would not be allowed to run around loose. Even if it was only the threat of this happening, it would be a good, solid threat that the audience can take seriously.

You have some very good points. Product placement in episodes (Smallville's constant plugs, Knight Rider's long views of the vehicles, Terminator constantly referring to the Dodge Ram or the Jeep Liberty) were supposed to be a way to counter those problems but that doesn't seem to be doing to trick anymore. I think online videos are getting more and more attention though too. They have the adverts and they sometimes extend them (like Terminator did with Monday's episode) to entice people to watch.

Online viewing should be made identical to TV viewing you watch the ad's that everyone saw or at the very least 50%. I wouldn't care if my DVR or online viewing made me do it if it meant viewers were being counted.

On something like I Tunes then it doesn't matter because networks make money by you buying it in the 1st place.

I hate ads... It's one of the reasons I love TIVO.

^ Online viewing appears to have gotten some attention for Terminator. Fox just ordered additional scripts. FOX Terminator Blog

Interesting and I can see why FOX may want to see how SCC does for 2 or 3 episodes come midseason and the return of 24/Idol which could boost it. I can even see why SCC might have 22 episodes to help promote the upcoming movie but there is no way a show with its budget is going to get a 3rd season unless a minimum of 7 million tune in per week.

^ It does have one advantage in the spring. No more Monday Night Football. I think that might help. Though I'm a realist. I believe that it'll end if it gets the back nine.

I don't think there's any possibility of CBS dumping Christine. All they really have to do is bury Worst Week and Gary Unmarried, move Christine back to Monday and keep Monday night as their comedy night. Branching out like this hasn't been terribly successful. However, it is the most successful show for a Seinfeld alum, so maybe that will keep it coming back.

Pushing Daisies is just dreadful. It's always been a hard sell, especially leading off a night of brand new programming. There isn't one "name" to lure people in and quirk doesn't seem to cut it with a lot of people. ABC can't even pass it on to one of its cable subsidiaries (like NBC and USA); all they have is ABC Family and the show has to be too expensive for the ratings they'd get. Realistically, ABC Wednesday needs to be blown up and the pieces redistributed to other nights. (The problem here is ABC is overloaded with hour dramas, making new scheduling tough.)

Even to save your own show ?

Also the ratings will be late again guys, I am going to a golf warehouse at the same time the ratings are given out and then got more stuff to do but they will be up at somepoint later in the day. Someone else is free to put them up if they want and I will do a round up afterwards or I will do the thread it when I get the free time later.
