Round-Up...

Start with the good and ABC had a good night with the CMA awards, which was on par from one year ago. Fox also had joy with Bones, which scored its best ever ratings by slightly edging its pilot from 4 and half years ago and I wouldn't be surprised to see FOX call it early with a series renewal.

CBS's comedy hour is a total flop and they have only one choice and that Move Old Christine back with Worst Week since thats a flop too and try to save one show or lose 3. Criminal Minds was normal but CSI NY saw a series low for the 2nd time in a row however I think its still quite safe for now.

Knight Rider blip was no such blip as it improved slighty upon last week but its far adrift from the safe 7 million it would need to be considered for a 2nd season but the retooling might work since midseason kicks off out of NFL on a sunday. Life could do with a re-tool cause I don't see any hope whatsoever and if NBC was in better condition, personally I would axe KR & LIFE. Law & Order might of done decent work if it was not in its 19th season so am not making it anything but a loser.

CW really need to find a decent show to take advantage of Top Models audience level, my suggestion would be 90210.

You keep saying that, and keep beating that drum, but I just don't see what you're seeing. I guess I don't understand the meaning of the numbers following the total viewers. I guess I don't understand what is so much worse about the 2.7/9 number than some of these other shows that you declare a winner.

In any event, it still doesn't seem smart to replace a "flop show" as you call it with a show that's even got worse numbers.

^ Old Christine worked well out of Two & Half Men and Worst Week doesn't so why not put it back and also Worst Weeks currrent numbers would suit better on this night. simple thing is CBS cancelled Shark which was getting 10 million last year and The Unit which gets 9 million is rumored to be on the chopping block, so two shows getting under 7 million with a demo barely above a CW show you do the maths.

CBS is not struggling for viewers it can afford to axe the small number of shows that are struggling and replace and history says they will.

I said it in the Monday ratings but I'll say it again, My Own Worst Enemy and Lipstick Jungle have been canceled.

Go Bones! One of the most boring episodes ever, the worst case I can remember, and it got a series high rating!

Can you break down the numbers for me? How do I read the numbers to understand it's not "getting the demo?"

It's a shame about The Unit, it's a decent show, and let's be honest, any of the other networks would be very happy with 9m. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed until they announce it.

I'm still surprised that both Life and KR got full season orders. I like Life, and can tolerate KR, but in any previous season, even last, with those numbers, they'd have been gone by now. Said it before, will say it again, NBC really should have kept Journeyman.....

I think they made a couple of mistakes. First of all think they focussed too much on the wives aspect of the story line. Secondly I think the season where they had Bob all entangled with the CIA was a turn off for some viewers and they just never came back. It didn't seem like the same show at that point. This season they've got that "The Unit" feel back, but it may be too little too late.

I gotta give kudos to NBC for trying to let these shows find an audience. Sometimes I refuse to watch a new show because I know if it isn't an instant hit, it will soon get the axe. I wait and see before I invest any time in it. (Probably should have done that with Worst Week.) with them commiting to it, maybe more people will give it a look see. Of course it still has a very tough time slot up against Criminal Minds.

It doesn't look Life will survive past this season but at least they're trying. While I may not agree with Mark on whether Worst Week is a "flop" or not, I do agree wholeheartedly with him that CBS would be a lot quicker to pull the plug. No way in hell does a show like Life survive on CBS.

I would give NBC kudos, but it's too little too late IMO. If they'd been more lenient with something like Journeyman then they wouldn't be persisting with shows that are scraping 5m. As things stand, NBC have little choice this year as they've got that many struggling shows that they can't viably cancel them all. At least not mid-season.

I suppose you're right. In any event, I'm just thrilled that Life is going to be around at least for this season.

I would not cal it a flop due to the total viewers and decent demo but I just think CBS will see that its a major weak link for the monday and CBS may be better moving to wednesday to kick start this so called comedy hour block and moving Old Christine back to where its a proven hit.

Also someone asked about the whole demo rating this explains is better than I could http://www.thefutoncritic.com/ratings.aspx?id=faq

I may not understand all the parts of how a the TV system works 100% but I know enough on what networks want and what is good, bad or just ok.

If people didn't follow Christine to Weds, why does that mean they'll watch it on Monday night? My thought is, if they really cared about the show, they'll follow it. They didn't.

I'm not convinced it's going to get better numbers than Worst Week if they move it back. A lot of those viewers have left for greener pastures, i.e. Samantha Who.

If they switch, I bet Christine will get about the same numbers as WW and vice versa. It just depends on which show they want to keep.

Old Christine seems to be a better show so it would reason that more people would stay tuned in from Two & Half Men lead in. It doesn't help that Bones sucker punches it every week so moving away from that would help. At the end of the day CBS has a track record of canning shows in similar positions to the 3 struggling comedies so at least they should make some sort of attempt to save at least one of them.

Was CSI: NY a series low or a season low? I know it was up against the CMAs, but ouch. It's having a good season, and some of the eps at the beginning of the season were getting great ratings (in the 15 million range). I hope it picks back up!

Far as I know it was a series low.
