here some news about Supernatural...

Smallville" is getting a ninth season, but don't expect "Supernatural" to go that far...

Show founder Eric Kripke doesn't care what the ratings are on The CW, after the fifth season, he's done.

Despite what the network and studio may or may not want, I don't have more than five seasons of a story," Kripke told Entertainment Weekly, according to the New York Post. "I would be willing to make sure there are enough villains and heroes around to continue a new story, but there's no way I'm doing Season 6

However, Kripke might not be alone in how many seasons the show should last...

We don't live at home," said Jensen Ackles, one of the stars of the show, about how "Supernatural" is shot in Vancouver, British Columbia. "We don't sleep in our own beds. Our families aren't here. Our friends aren't here. Our girlfriends aren't here. To do it for another five years, I don't know if I could handle it

Jared Padalecki, the other half of the Winchester Brothers, agrees... but with slightly different reasons.

"I don't want to be cheese, and here's Sam and Dean at age 50 sitting in wheelchairs," Padalecki said. "I'd rather leave [fans] wanting more than get to the point where they boo you off stage."

I read somewhere today, forget where, that My Name Is Earl is most probably not coming back next year because it didn't even beat the ABC premiere of that Motherhood sitcom, but that seems odd to me because of course the pilot of a new show will get a high rating...

It wouldn't surprise me if NBC did cancel the show because there are signs there...

NBC ordered a larger 27 episode order to help get to a decent sydnication package and lets face it the ratings have been down to series low levels so NBC should cancel it but they still might bring it back for a shorter episode of 12/13 episodes for the fall. (90 episode mark come 4th season finale btw)

A rumor that has picked up steam is FOX want to pick up the show ecause they are worried about the lack of comedies on their network but I think FOX would be foolish not to just create there own instead.

Kripke and the 2 J's have been candid all along that (if they were lucky enough to get renewed ) they didn't want to do more than 5 seasons. They want the show to go out on a high note creatively, plus both J's actually have some talent so they have a chance at another series or films. It's hilarious because the CW is finally getting it that their teen girl focus isn't working The suits have ignored Thursday and now they're panicking a little. Was it tv.com that did the April Fools' joke that the CW was going to change its name to the M-W, as in Monday through Wednesday because that's what Dawn O advertises? :guffaw: It's funny because it's true. There really isn't any more story for SPN after next year after the big Lucifer rising brother vs. brother thing they're doing now. A few more interesting stand alones, more family history, and that's it. They'd be recycling after that.

Jared's already gotten bonked on the head about the 50 year olds in wheelchairs remark.

Pardon my ignorance but I thought Supernatural was just a series of standalone X-Files horror riffs. How is it that there can't possibly be more than 5 years of stories?

No, no, no. Supernatural's format has changed markedly since season one. There are a few stand alones here and there, but the mythology of the show has a very well defined arc story that dates back to events in season one. The arc kicked into gear early in season two after the brothers' father made his deal with Azazel. Unlike the X-Files, they actually give answers on this show every so often. With the story the way it's structured now, it's got to have a definitive ending.

As for them wanting only 5 seasons, Kim Manner's death in February sealed that deal. He was extremely close with Kripke, a co-executive producer, and a great friend of Ackles and Padalecki. They don't go around on public grief parade, but it's a difficult situation.

Not really. Fox studios already produces it so it wouldn't be that difficult to just move it over and it already has something of a fanbase. I think it'd be easier.
