The Finder - 2.0 in the demo, ouch.

Fringe's numbers must be irrelevant by now, it's all about whether Fox want to show another season and/or whether WBs are willing to give it to them on the cheap. If it were solely based on the numbers then it would already be dead.

Maybe that's because I don't understand how American TV works, but I would never understand how TBBT gets 16 mil. viewers and 30 Rock gets less than quarter of that.

30 Rock's ratings are a real shame. It's a great show, IMHO.

Might be a bit too smarmy for middle America.

BTW: Happy Leap Day, Everyone!

It's partly because TBBT is a "safer" variety of sitcom, but it's mostly just because hardly anyone wants to watch NBC nowadays whereas CBS is America's most watched network.

'Grimm' Wins 9pm Hour in Adults 18-49
At 9 p.m. ET, “Grimm” (1.5/5 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall) won the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49. "Grimm" built on its 18-49 lead-in by 50 percent. Note that on average this season, "Grimm" originals have been adding 58 percent to their next-day "live plus same day" 18-49 rating when Nielsen reports additional time-shifted viewing in "live plus seven day" ratings.

Good for Grimm. :bolian:

I actually thought Parks and Rec was better than 30 Rock this week, but there were some good bits. Happy Leap Day to you too. :)

TBBT has a huge advantage, being on a network that some people still watch. The main way shows get known is by being advertised during shows on the same network, or having a strong lead-in, so that people are too lazy to change the channel and sample the new show without actually meaning to.

Also, 30 Rock is too political. That's fine of course, but it does mean it will lose some of the audience, vs a show that makes sure not to offend anyone. There's a very good reason broadcast shows are so bland. If you want to appeal to some niche audience of only a few million, you gotta be on cable.

Or you can be on Friday, which broadcast has apparently given up on, and has now relegated to de-factor niche programming (especially sf/f):

I'm not trying to slight Grimm; I watch it too. But 5M is more of a cable-sized audience.

One appeals to a large audience, the other simply doesn't. 30 Rock is a quirky, weird comedy. TBBT is a broad sitcom with jokes aimed at, well, 16 million people.

CBS also helps with that, people don't watch NBC in general. 30 Rock 10 years ago would probably have double the ratings though ironically it would probably get cancelled.

Possibly it would have double. I really like 30 Rock, but, I can understand, like Community, how it doesn't appeal to a larger audience. Watching both shows is like having inside jokes to your friends. You get, your friends get it, but outside of the group... it's just weird.

What a great way to put that...I definitely agree. I think 30 Rock is okay, but when I watch it I feel like I am watching a show made by television industry insiders, about the television industry, for other television industry insiders. I'm sure if I worked in Hollywood it would be just hilarious, but since I don't, I feel like the jokes aren't relevant to me.
