One week ago we had some debuts...

Rob (series debut) - 13.47 million & 4.1/11

The Finder (series debut) - 5.50 million & 1.7/4

30 Rock (season debut) - 4.47 million & 1.8/5

Why the hell did FOX air the debut of "The Finder" last week and not wait for the American Idol week. Some other noticable ratings last week...

Person of Interest - 14.86 million & 3.2/8

Bones - 8.64 million & 2.4/6

I'm guessing since The Finder is a spin-off of Bones they thought it would have a natural audience airing right after the new Bones episode last week. But I agree that it would have been smarter to wait until this week's American Idol lead in for the premiere.

Wow The Finder is dead.

Yeh no doubt about that and with Bones also losing serious traction in the demo + older it gets more expensive it may become due to salaries, the future of that show has to be brought into question. I can see Bones becoming a friday show next year to end it after 8 years probably to the dis-advantage of FRINGE, which is likely to be axed though I would love to see...

8-10 Fridays 2012 Fall
Fringe (13 episode wrap up)
Bones (final season)

8-10 Fridays 2013 Midseason
Kitchen nightmares

One week ago...

Fringe - 2.87 million & 1.1/3

Grimm - 4.65 million & 1.4/4

Despite repeats for CSI:NY & Supernatural, Fringe failed to improve in the demo though based off the increase in viewers from last week, I assume theres a decent chance of a 1.2 in the finals. I think Grimm more than anything has really hurt Fringe in stealing viewers in the demo and sadly its gets even worse for Fringe fans...

Despite this comment from a Fringe producer a few weeks ago

we know what the end of this season is going to be, and it can function as a series finale

WB chief "Peter Roth" recently said season 4 will not resolve the story and they are banking on a 5th season or a new network. Its quite clear Fringe is heading down the Twin Peaks road

Network TV, besides CBS, is in some serious trouble.

ABC has had a lot of trouble finding decent dramas the last few years, Once Upon a Time and Revenge this year seem better, but ABC still needs some help.

Fox has the dead or dying Bones and House. I can see Fox wanting two more seasons of Bones, but they really need to end House, unless they want to do a 10-13 episode season for the fall just to end it. AI is dropping like a rock. Even So You Think You Can Dance is about to get canceled, which really sucks because I want a friend to try out for the show next year.

CW should just pick up Fringe for a 6-13 episode season 5. Sure the network would lose money, but WB would make it back in DVD sales.

I'm sorry but the creators of the show are idiots. It's going to get canceled, end the show now. They have plenty of warning. I rather it be like BSG (well hopefully better) and know when to end it then never get an ending.

Both ABC and NBC have brought in honchos from cable to turn things around. The 2012-13 season will be the first full test of the new approach, since there will be no shows that were greenlighted under the old regimes like in 2011-12 to muddy the waters.

So far, both ABC and NBC have been greenlighting a lot of projects in the sf/f genre - probably emboldened by the relative successes of Once Upon a Time and Grimm. Haven't heard much from FOX on the genre front so far, but they have several sci fi pilots in contention. (Light on the fantasy side, which probably reflects their greater reliance on the male audience.)

CBS is coasting along being the last bastion of the old mass TV audience. Sooner or later, the same problems that have hit their network brethren will hit them, too. Even at CBS, genre programming has made its mark: Person of Interest is at least nominally sci-fi-ish, and there have been hints that it may become more than a nominal thing.

I stand by my prediction that Smash will be the first solid hit of the year for NBC.

The Finder was picked up for several episodes already and it's going to have some Bones characters guest star during Bones's hiatus. That will probably bring in a few more viewers. I seriously doubt they're just going to ax the show. They will probably just conveniently not renew it at the end of the run.

And am I the only one who doesn't care when a show airs? It can be Thursday or Friday or after American Idol or opposite the Golden Globes or the BET awards for all I care.

The Finder has 13 episodes to fill in for Bones. I doubt the network will flat out cancel it, but they will leave it there for filler. I could even see them moving the show around randomly just to burn it off and use the lead out of Idol on something that will get better ratings.

A DVR makes that a lot less important. Some of the shows I watch regularly, I couldn't even tell you when they normally air.

As for the ratings...30 Rock and Parks and Recreation are both so low! They are two of my favorite comedies.

As usual, my taste is not reflective of the larger culture. All these stupid "reality TV" shows just drive me nuts.

Oh, and Fringe...geez!

Not too split hairs but not renewing a show at the end of a run is axing the show still :p
