TV Ratings (Monday 2nd February) + Superbowl Ratings

The Superbowl reigned supreme as the number 1 show in the USA and did pretty well worldwide but is nowhere near the most watched show in the world, no matter how NFL fans would love you to believe (Summer games and FIFA World Cup Final take those honors)

98.73 million Americans tuned in to watch the NFL Superbowl 43 with an estimated 1 billion for the total worldwide audience. It was the most watched superbowl in history among viewers but 2nd to last years Superbowl in the 18-49 demo by scoring 36.7/67

The Office wasted the lead in however compared to previous years by final figures showing the NBC 18-49 hit could only manage 22 million viewers and a 10.6 rating among 18-49 adults (everyone expected 25 million)...I would of used the slot to save Heroes and air that instead.

In summer, The Closer on TNT at 9:00, has outrated broadcast shows. But how is it doing in winter?

I guess the superbowl promotion didn't boost Heroes like NBC would have hoped...

Cable network ratings take longer, so you have to wait for this week's numbers, however The Closer last week got 6.2 million viewers and was the most watched cable show of the week.

Yes! Chuck keeps climbing! :D

And it looks like NBC finally might have found a stable lead-out to follow Heroes.

Yep Bigdaddy is right and the only times you will get the cable ratings quick is for special evens like series/season debuts or season/series finales.

Winners...
TBBT, HIMYM, Two & Half Men, CSI Miami, House, 24 and The Bachelor

Honorable Mention...
Worst Week, Heroes, Chuck and Medium

Losers...
Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and True Beauty

ROUND UP
CBS rules the roost once again with its almost unbeatable lineup of comedys + CSI. Almost being the phrase because Worst Week despite looking a solid show with double digit figures, its a clear weak link that will get even more clear should RoE return and score higher...CBS has no problems yanking any show and at the moment no indications have been given that they want to keep it around for a 2nd season though I would move it to anchor the new tuesday nights comedy block and cancel Old Christine.

FOX's 24 may of dropped to a season low but its still early and I don't think theres any reason to sound the alarm, am sure the show will keep double digits for the last two years of its life in 2009 & 2010. House continues to improve upon the 1st half of the season just like I said it would since NCIS is not taking away its older viewers.

ABC's The Bachelor continues to thrive this season and give me greater concern for the actual IQ of the television audience these days though they can't all be stupid due to the flop that is True Beauty.

NBC was much improved upon the fall however some people may of expected a little more due to the Superbowl Advertising. However Chuck carries on where it left off just before Christmas by continuing to improve vastly from the 6 million region it started the season with. Heroes looks like the audience is down to 8.5 million though lucky the erosion has stopped for now !!!. Medium returns and should supply a much better lead out than My Own Worst enemy did.

CW continues to flop and my only suggestion is to put OTH at 8pm because its clearly the stronger show to anchor the night and at the moment I would cancel GG.

The good news for Heroes is that the new episode this week did better in the ratings then the last episode in December. So people are at least checking out how this new Volume begins.

Wow those are pretty good for Medium. I wonder if the Writer's Strike last year may have helped it.

How the heck do they get the billion number? I mean, a billion? That means 1 out of every 7 people I see had seen the Super Bowl...

Losers...
Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and True Beauty

Are CW shows really losers though when their standard for ratings success is significantly lower than the standards real networks have?

I normally keep them off the losers list if they break 3 million or get near it at the last but these shows are too far from that and they have slipped heavily since the fall.

LOSERS am afraid.

It seems wildly implausible. 99 million Americans watching means that about 1/3rd of the US population saw it. So we're supposed to believe that the fraction of viewers watching it in the US is only twice that of the rest of the world (as 1 billion would mean that ~1/6th of the world population saw it)? I'm not buying it. I mean, what do people in Bangladesh or Uruguay care about the Super Bowl?

Heck, aren't there at least a couple of billion people in the world who don't even have access to a TV?

I actually like TRUE BEAUTY..go figure..its stupid and moronic...but its fun watching these spoiled beauties, men and women, get punked at the end...

Go Chuck! It's working its way to safety, and a third season at this rate.

Re the CW, I can't see them cancelling GG. They've got far bigger problems than that, and it seems to be a natural fit with OTH. They're not great numbers, but by CCW standards they're not their worst. I'd imagine they'll keep both, keep them paired, and concentrate on replacing the likes of Privileged and Stylista instead.

But again, seriously, go Chuck!

I can't believe this year's Super Bowl outperformed last year's. Last year was the Wild Card Comeback Kids versus the Invincible Undefeated Team. Not to mention an amazing back n forth game. I'm also not surprised at the Office's low numbers since the show didn't even start until 10:45 at night; do the post-SB shows always start so ridiculously late? How many sports fans are going to stick around to watch this show they've never seen till 11:45 at night? I couldn't believe how many post game interviews I had to sit through waiting for the Office to come on.
