We are worse off as a culture than I thought.

Actually, CSI: Miami and Two and a Half Men have both been on a few years longer than DWTS. How come you're not wondering why people aren't sick of those shows?

Idiotic sitcoms like Two and a Half Men make me worry a lot more about society than some harmless dance competition.

^ Othello: So is that who is making up those numbers? Guys watching for T&A sorts of reasons?

Well, that certainly explains it, if that is the case.

Level 2 Diagnostic: I realize other shows have been on longer. But none of the other shows listed in the original post even remotely APPROACH the numbers Dancing With the Stars got.

DWTS got a third again as much as either of the other two. Not even in the same ballpark.

Winners...
DWTS, Two and a Half Men, CSI: Miami and Worst Week

Honorable Mention...
Boston Legal, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and Heroes

Decent...
Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill

Losers...
Sarah Connor Chronicles and Prison Break

Round-Up...

Lets start with ABC who had a great start to the TV season with DWTS, even though I don't get how the show has not become boring yet its a huge powerhouse for ABC and will not be going anywhere soon. Boston Legal could of done more to keep the audience of DWTS but after 5 seasons, over 9 million for a 10pm ABC show is still very good. ABC will never commision a 6th season though if the ratings improve into the 10 million range I suspect the number 13 may get some sort of increase.

Good starts for the CBS comedies, which were all up from year ago levels though the ? is still out for Worst Week because we know there will be a drop in ratings for ep 2. I still feel though with TBBT having the potential of more years left in it, that it should get the 8:30pm slot, which always does better in ratings then the 8pm slot.

Heroes is not what NBC may want but nearly 10 million is no danger at all for an NBC cast plus the show has huge ratings from TIVO & Website viewings and not too mention that the demo score alone means that show would survivie on any network.

The question now for S:CC is not, will the show get a 3rd season but how long will the 2nd season be ? At this rate FOX will pull the plug before midseason arrives. It was a huge mistake not to leave the show till January and give it a 24 or Idol partnership though Prison Break was always ending this season anyway so it will be in no danger of early canning.

CW has improved so far over last year and mondays is a solid partnership for the network, which may have life left in it after all.

Wow... Heroes couldn't hit 10 mil? What are its old numbers? I thought it got 12-16 million before.

Good news for Mother, at least. I love that show, even if I only get to watch it on DVD because of sci-fi competition.

It still boggles my mind that Prison Break in its fourth year outperforms Terminator the TV Show. Wow.

It was playing around 11M and a 5 rating in the demo (which is the part that matters) so it's not too far off the mark now.

From Pifeedback:
Date - viewers - demo rating
09/24/07 14.12 M* 6.5
2 day Combined 16.97 M 7.3
10/01/07 11.96 M 5.5
10/08/07 10.91 M 5.1
10/17/07 11.41 M 5.2
10/22/07 10.81 M 4.9
10/29/07 10.51 M 4.9
11/05/07 9.88 M 4.9
11/12/07 11.16 M 5.2
11/19/07 10.81 M 5.1
11/26/07 11.89 M 5.3
12/03/07 11.06 M 5.0

(That 16.97 M number shouldn't be taken seriously, it was NBC fudging the numbers. The real story is the consistency of the ratings thru the season and particularly that demo number.)

Last night:

Heroes (NBC)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 10.15 million (#3), A18-49: 4.8/11 (#3)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 10.28 million (#3), A18-49: 5.0/11 (#2)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 9.61 million (#3), A18-49: 4.9/12 (#2)
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 9.52 million (#2), A18-49: 4.8/12 (#2)

The good news is if the fans are loyal and will return after a ridiculously long haitus, it shouldn't fall off a cliff. Given how desperate NBC is, a loyal fanbase with good demographics is not something they can afford to sneeze at. After all the publicity, I'm sure NBC was hoping it would do somewhat better, but it's far from catastrophic. I guess viewers just want to see Heroes at 9-10pm and switch to the glory of David Caruso at 10pm, but if that's how they want it, fine. :p

And if the Chuck/Heroes/My Own Worst Enemy looks like it has some synergy when it starts up in the next couple weeks, that could be another element in Heroes' favor, because it would get the credit for anchoring a weaker show and a new show.

Fox's Monday lineup looks like toast. Fine by me, neither show really interests me. PB maybe some, this week was good anyway.
It still boggles my mind that Prison Break in its fourth year outperforms Terminator the TV Show. Wow.
PB still is coasting along on the goodwill towards some of the characters, who are very watchable. Especially T-Bag. :D

The problem was that Heroes is not a 10pm show so the 2nd hour was alwaays going to struggle, look at the first episode and then your over 10 million with a 4.9 demo score so am sure the show will settle around 10 million for most of season 3.

However I don't believe the show will have the legs that NBC may want it too, who I believe want a 7 year show when Tim Kring has hinted that Heroes was a 5 year show in his head though with the shorter 2nd season we could see a 11-13 episode 6th season added to his original plan.

Decent numbers for BL, which is always welcome news.

Bad night for The Sarah Connor Chronicles again though. If those numbers don't rebound quickly then I fear it's not long for this world now. TBH though, I'd much rather it survive than PB which has most definitely, IMO, outstayed its welcome now.

It won't. This 13 episode fifth season is the end of the show. Some people were hoping for Emmy's on Sunday to allow a couple more episodes, but it'll be toast in 12 weeks or so. Kinda hard to understand, honestly, considering it brings in consistent numbers for ABC and is nominated every dang year for awards.

IIRC, with postseason baseball ramping up on Fox, all the programming will be pulled until sometime in November. Throw a couple new eppys on in November and then program reruns for December. Wait until January and you get to FINALLY pair Terminator with 24. That was Fox's game plan from the beginning.

It might make sense for Kring to do five seasons of Heroes and then a spin-off series, maybe with one or two of the existing characters as an anchor. The premise is open-ended like Star Trek and at least it has a substantial fanbase, which is more than a lot of shows can say.

Another factor is Heroes' big download and DVD numbers, not to mention the ads they do within the show, for which they also get revenue. Nice blatant plug for Sprint this week. :rommie:

Is Heroes owned by Universal ? if so then are NBC right so worldwide ratings do actually matter so even if lower US ratings all the DVD's and world base brings in more money...virtually the same reason why ABC loves Scrubs so much and keep it round despite low US TV ratings.

According to FutonCritic, the "studio credit" is Tailwind Productions and Universal Media Studios. Joint venture?

Not that I know what overseas ratings are like...

I know
The 2009 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records has named NBC’s Heroes "Most Downloaded TV Show on the planet

Trying to find the survey that I read, which said CSI Miami is the biggest show in the world though Heroes was mentioned too.
