TV Ratings - 5x10 (Vincent and the Doctor)

You can tell summer is here...

Doctor Who got an audience of 5.0 million viewers according to unofficial overnight figures.

This was despite a solid share audience (2nd highest of the night, almost 1 in 3)

a share of 29.4% of the total audience

The winner of the day was the final of Britain's Got Talent on ITV1, which had an audience of 12.3 million, becoming the most watched programme of the week.

First numbers have been quite off this season so I would expect the finals to settle around 6.5 million alongside the last 2 episodes (finals out for Cold Blood soon).

I don't think we are going to get a big push for the finale though because a lot of people will be out at the pub for World Cup days and probably won't tune in mass numbers for Who but still we could get around 7-7.5 million I'd guess.

TV audiences may dwindle bad in the summer these days but least Who gets a good share and normally is in the top 2.

^ Like it would matter really because it was still the 2nd highest show of the day, got a 1 in 3 share of the audience who bothered to have the TV on and weren't outside plus it was half term weekend so alot of people were out for day oe on hoildays.

Also like I said the finals will give it a big push as all episodes have gotten.

If BBC were really worried about the ratings they would air it at 7pm all the time and start in March, which I feel they should do anyway.

The BBC would be mental to ever cancel Doctor Who again. Viewing figures aside, which are decent, it must bring in an absolute bundle of £££ for the BBC from merchandisng and international broadcasting.

^ I read last month that BBC Worldwide made a 35% increase in profits with Doctor Who leading the way so yeh BBC are loving the show.

However unless a March start date I feel this is the way the ratings will go from next year of around 8-9 million to watch the start and the audience being halved by Late May/Early June and a moderate gain come the season finale 2 parters.

BBC will lose money by its budget being under huge pressure from the Tories in the Con/Dem government so I could see a 10-12 episode season in the future though probably still a while from that.

And once more, while the figures aren't that great, nothing else (save BGT) did all that well either.

Figures aren't great recently nor do they matter, but they're interesting to read regardless.

Overnight ratings have been quite off this year and so far none of the episodes come final numbers have hit series low since the shows return which was the satan pit 2 parter DT's 1st year of around 5.5 million.

EDIT - The episode scored a 86 Index Score, placing it in the Excellent category (85 or above).
