Not to be confused with his musician namesake, the brother of Karen Carpenter, the British tv producer Richard Carpenter has died aged 78.

While the name may not ring a bell, his body of work will be familiar to those of us of a certain age. Most notably, he created the 1970s eccentric, dishevelled wizard Catweasle and produced the 1980s best take on Robin Hood, Robin of Sherwood, with Michael Praed and later Jason Connery.

Other credits include Black Beauty, The Borrowers and The Famous Five.

Before moving behind the scenes, Carpenter was an actor in the likes of Z-Cars and Dixon of Dock Green.

RIP and thanks for the memories.

I really enjoyed Robin of Sherwood and Dick Turpin. The interviews with Carpenter on the RoS DVDs were always very interesting.

RIP Kip :(.
