Despite the drop in ratings (increase in DVR), FOX has picked up the J.J Abrams Sci Fi drama for a 3rd season according Entertainment Weekly...

EW has learned exclusively that Fox has picked up Fringe for a third season. Though the show isn’t exactly blowing the roof off of Nielsen — it’s been averaging just 7.6 million viewers and is ranked No. 50 in the all-important adults 18-49 demographic this season — it managed to survive in a tough new time period on Thursdays.

The only question left unanswered is whether Fringe got a 13 episode order or a full 22 episode season.

Some other pickups have been announced too...

ABC has renewed “Brothers & Sisters” for a fifth season

NBC has renewed The Office, 30 Rock and Community to join the already picked up Parks and Recreation.

Smallville picked up for a 10th season by CW

There is bad news for one show...

A representative from the Tribune Company is now saying that Legend of the Seeker will not be renewed for a third season.

When e-mailed for comment by KSiteTV and by others, this is what he said:

Dear Craig,
Thanks for your email and for your support of the show. Unfortunately, not enough viewers felt the same way as you and “Seeker’s” ratings do not merit renewing it. I’m sorry.

The ratings I hear are decent enough so surprised to see if get dropped but seems like a perfect fit to air on SYFY ?

Great news for Fringe. I'm waiting for the DVD release for season 2.

With Seeker, it doesn't air on free to air TV here. Might have to see if I can find it on DVD.

I never even knew it existed until clips of Blalock doing interviews started to show up a couple weeks ago. We've come a long way since the days when Xena, Hercules, TNG, Baywatch and DS9 ruled syndication. The TV market in my part of the world is so dead for these types of programs -- they all show infomercials and reruns of Simpsons instead.

Was this thing even released to DVD?

Alex

This isn't a surprise for Fringe. It's doing very well in a time slot that has always been a disaster for FOX plus it's ratings have been higher than they were in the fall.

It is inaccurate to say that Legend of the Seeker has been "cancelled," though everyone online seems to be misreporting it that way. The statement "A representative from the Tribune Company is now saying that Legend of the Seeker will not be renewed for a third season" is misleading, because the Tribune Company doesn't make the show. It's a production of ABC Studios and Renaissance Pictures and is syndicated on stations across the country. What the statement means is that the local stations owned by Tribune Broadcasting have chosen not to renew their contract to air LotS. Now, that does include the majority of the stations that air the show, including the highest-profile one, WGN America (but not including the station that airs it in my city, for instance). So it's a grave financial hit to the producers and might mean that they wouldn't be able to afford to produce a third season. But there's nothing stopping them from selling the syndication package to other stations, and if they can sign on enough stations, they could afford to keep making the show.

I haven't gotten around to watching Legend of the Seeker yet. However, my best friends are big fans. In fact, it seems to be the only current SF/F series that they've shown any strong interest in following besides Doctor Who & Heroes. A potential cancellation would make them most displeased.

has Scrubs been officially axed yet?

this isnt good news for Numb3rs,

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/news/a207610/morrow-swaps-numb3rs-for-abcs-truth.html

Numb3rs star Rob Morrow has landed a role on Jerry Bruckheimer's ABC pilot The Whole Truth.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 47-year-old actor has been tapped to star opposite Joely Richardson.
Morrow will apparently play a larger-than-life defense attorney called Jimmy who is pitted against Richardson's New York prosecutor Kathryn Pearle.
The casting is in second position to CBS's Numb3rs, which is widely tipped for the axe.
seriously what is keeping them from making this offical, one way or the other?

^As soon as you cancel a show everyone stops watching, so it's better just to say it's not canceled even when it really is.

there is only 1 more episode left, unless you are talking about reruns, same for Heroes that has finished its series, however I am expecting that to get another series drag it out to 100.

Is Heroes coming back for another painful season?

That's up in the air right now. What are NBC supposed to replace it with ? An hour of static ? Everybody Loves Hypnotoad ?

Everybody Loves Hypnotoad-a rollicking comedy about a suburban family of four and their pet hypnotoad, Sam. The show follows the weekly misadventures of Billy, an adolescent boy and Sam the Hypnotoad as they respectively try to wend their way through the trials of middle school and the road to world domination. Fridays 9pm CST.

:guffaw:Sounds more like CW than NBC....

ed.- I hear Heroes will be picked up for another season. I listen in some pretty strange places...
