Contest: ENTER TV & Media Avatar Contest: Military Movies

the G-man

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Thanks for the votes in the last (Halloween-themed) contest. We've moved on to another holiday...

Today's Veterans Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in many other nations. It's also the day after the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps.

So, the theme for this one is "Military Movies." From "Wings" to "Warfare" and everything in between.

No sci-fi, animation or fantasy, movies only (no TV series) and otherwise the usual rules (Three entries per user, entries may not exceed 200x200 pixels and/or 1 Mb data, and safe for work) apply.

I'll put the voting poll up in about a week. Good luck everyone!

ENTRY #1:

Bilko.gif

Sgt. Bilko (1996)
Phil Hartman's character

The Enemy Below (1957)
jmSzCQN.gif

Stripes (1981)
Y8jTtv4.gif

Down Periscope (1996)
LIWY80M.gif

EDIT: I see auntiehill also did Full Metal Jacket. If duplicate movies aren't permitted, I'll find another one.

@Kai "the spy": Ezgif.com doesn't save images. You'll need to use a host site like Imgur.

You're going to hate me, but the theme is "military movies," not "characters from movies who happened to be in the military at one point during the movie." Otherwise, I'd be letting in Harry Bailey, Ted Striker and, I dunno, Col. Mustard.
Speaking as someone who's run a lot of these contests over the years, I do appreciate the thought and effort you put into what entries do and don't qualify for your theme. I've done kind of obscure themes lately, and it turned out there were fewer entries resulting in me being a bit more indiscriminate because I was happy to have entries at all. While "military movies" is very broad and not that original, it does result in more participation, more entries, and the freedom to keep the rules and not bend them too much. i'll keep that in mind for my own themes in the future.
