So it's the holiday season again, and you know what that means... companies pressuring you to buy, BUY, BUY!! We just came off of Black Friday (Week!) and Cyber Monday (Week!). And Christmas is coming up, and the over-commercialization of Christmas is an oft-repeated topic. According to business, you can have the perfect Christmas, as long as you spend on the right decorations, food and presents!

So let's acknowledge this most commercial time of year by changing the focus of our contest this week, and highlighting the commercials that try to sell us things during our favourite TV shows!

Your entry can be from any television commercial (or online advertisement) that tries to convince you to spend money on something, whether that be breakfast cereal, insurance, cars, etc., or even just a general ad encouraging you to spend money in their store/restaurant/place of business. (PSAs trying to convince you of something other than spending money, such as getting your COVID shot, wouldn't count.) The only requirements are that your entry must be SFW, and your entry can't be an ad for a movie, television show, streaming service, or any other service where the advertisement could just be a scene from a movie or TV show.

Your entries must be no larger than 200 x 200 pixels, and 1 MB. Each contestant may enter up to three avatars. Please identify the product/service/store being advertised, if it is not readily obvious from your entry itself. The contest will be open for about a week.

Have fun! :techman:

Just to clarify in case there was any confusion: the commercial doesn't have to be Christmas-themed. But of course it's perfectly OK if it is! :)

Called simply "The Rant", this Molson Canadian beer ad is possibly one of the most famous commercials in Canadian history. The ad features a Canadian named Joe, who gets increasingly worked up as he rails against Canadian stereotypes and contrasts us with our southern neighbours. Molson had other ads in the "I am Canadian" campaign, but none of them seemed to enter the cultural zeitgeist like this one did. The ad was eventually parodied by William Shatner, who did a Trek-themed version at the Juste Pour Rire/Just for Laughs comedy festival.

Post's "Diamond Shreddies" campaign was a brilliant, funny and innovative campaign that reinvigorated the Shreddies brand while skewering the advertising industry itself. The image above is from the first television ad of the campaign, called "Factory Floor", which framed the "new" "Diamond" Shreddies as a product rollout designed to save face from a "production issue". In addition to the "Diamond Shreddies" branded box you see in the linked ad, they also eventually sold boxes that were supposedly "Combo Packs" containing both squares and diamonds!

Just so I'm not the only one without a Christmas-themed ad, I offer up this M&Ms classic.

(Although I did consider going with Midas's "Canadian Police Chase" ad for my third entry.)
