TV character scorecard (SPOIL me please)

The Borgified Corpse

Admiral
Admiral
After taking a lengthy absence from reading Star Trek novels (in favor of more non-fiction, the works of Neil Gaiman, & Sparkle Hayter's "Robin Hudson" mysteries), I picked up "A Singular Destiny" because the description on the back intrigued me. And while KRAD has done an excellent job of filling in the backstory for those just joining in with this book, I nevertheless find myself confronted with a Star Trek universe that is no longer so familiar to me. Some things I was prepared for, like Martok being Chancellor, or the Next Generation cast kinda being spread all over the place after the events of Nemesis. But we've also got Captain Ezri Dax barely recognizable from the adorable, neurotic pixie I first fell in love with. And other threads here indicate that some other major characters are dead.

I was hoping that someone could please get me up to speed on the "present" dispositions of all the major TV characters in the current novel continuity. I don't really care about spoilers since I'm probably only going to read a small fraction of what's been published. But I'd like to get a better handle on what's going on.

Let's see...

TOS:
Spock: still alive and working in Romulan space
McCoy: still alive and doctoring
Kirk: basically still dead, except in the Shatnerverse
Scotty: head of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers
The rest: limited solid information

TNG:
Picard: still captain of the Enterprise-E, married to Beverly Crusher (still CMO) and expecting a son
La Forge: still chief engineer
Worf: resigned ambassadorship and returned to Enterprise, accepted first officer position following Data's death in Nemesis
Data: still dead
B-4: still an android of very little brain, residing at Daystrom Institute
Riker and Troi: still married and aboard the USS Titan, with a newborn daughter.

DS9:
The main post-finale DS9 storyline is still only a year or so past "What You Leave Behind." Sisko has returned and his daughter with Kasidy has been born. Jake has also married a Bajoran girl (who we met in "The Visitor"). Kira is now a Starfleet Captain in command of DS9. Bashir is still CMO. The O'Briens are on Cardassia Prime helping in the post-war reconstruction. Odo is in the Gamma Quadrant, abandoned by his people again. Quark is still running the bar/Ferengi Embassy. Ezri has switched to the command track... which eventually leads her, four years later, to the command position seen in Destiny.

VOY:
Being revealed in the to-be-released Full Circle.

And I'm sure I missed some other details which others will come along and fill in...

And what's he up to in the Shatnerverse? Where did we last see him? (The last Shatner book I read was "Avenger.")

I'm just hoping that little Picard & little Riker don't end up together 20 years down the road or something. That would just be too... Odd Couple II.

How do the Next Generation novels work with no Riker, Data, or Troi?

If Sisko is back to stay, what's he doing with himself? Is he back in Starfleet at all or are his concerns primarily domestic at this point?

And which book do I read to find out what went so wrong with Odo's mission?

By adding new characters. After a few false starts and a bit of a revolving door among the command crew, the current crew seems to be settling in fairly well.

Pretty much domestic for the moment.

The Dominion: Olympus Descending in Worlds of DS9 Book 3.

IIRC, the woman from TOS... Uhura? Isn't she a Captain or something, and involved in... the SCE? Or something?

I don't mind no Riker and Troi...
But there have been some issues, they've all been together so long! But some other familiar faces return, and some new ones- some good... some not so good.

DS9:
<snip> Odo is in the Gamma Quadrant, abandoned by his people again.

As someone said, DRGIII's Worlds of DS9 story... but it's a tad more complicated than that... LOL

I will ask- does the Odo/GQ thing crop up in ASD? Or just the Typhon Pact?
I'm behind and all over the place.

Probably neither. Remember, there's a gap of 4 years or more between the DS9 books and the post-DES books. Whatever happens with Odo in the wake of Olympus Descending will probably be covered in DS9 novels that are set before DES.

So far we've seen one of these characters in 6 books and two in 4 (with 4 overlapping). Of these books I've read I've read 5 (one with just the one character in 6 and 4 of the overlapping) and so far I've really liked all of these characters

Pretty much domestic for the moment.
He's also helping the Kira and co. prepare for an upcoming conflict with a new alien race.

The Dominion: Olympus Descending
in Worlds of DS9 Book 3.

Also, in case you're at all interested in recommendations, the Destiny trilogy that immediately precedes A Singular Destiny is absolutely KILLER, and will introduce you to the current continuity crews of the ENT-E and Riker's ship, Titan.

Not entirely accurate. In my Crucible trilogy, which is completely consistent with all of the various Star Trek series (including the animated series), and which is also consistent with many but not all Trek literary works, McCoy's ultimate fate is played out. As well, Crucible also sees Kirk not exactly meeting his ultimate demise on Veridian III.

But hey, that's just me.

Uhura still is in command of Starfleet Intelligence and Admiral Chekov is retired from Starfleet as of 2377 (two years after DS9 ended and concurrent w/VOY S7) as per the Vulcan's Soul trilogy.

Okay... that sounds more like it... I remember Uhura talking about diplomacy stuff in SCE... but couldn't remember her position. Thanks.

Is The Typhon Pact also a novel title then, (when you say "neither")?
But thanks, that's what I was wondering... I thought TPTB said they were avoiding that line in DES to give flexibility to the writers of the upcoming Odo/DS9/GQ train.

It's the umbrella title of a series of books that will come out in 2010 and will focus on the Typhon Pact.

I don't recall anyone specifically mentioning Odo's arc or announcing any specific upcoming followup on Gamma Quadrant events, but yes, DES avoided making references to most DS9 characters and continuity in order to avoid spoiling or limiting future DS9 novels.

*thinks*
Saavik is married to Spock & is a starfleet captain

Does anyone know the current status of the Sulus, both Hikaru & his daughter?

Ahh... right right... slllooowwwly coming back to me now. :)

I think it's because it'll take a while- the current... problems... must be dealt with. But I'm happy for that- leaves things almost wide open.

In Warpath, to deal with the Ascendant thing, didn't Kira realize she'd need more help, more friends to win in that dream during her coma? I'm kinda wondering if after the IG thing is solved, if they won't have friends in 2 universes to help with that. Or the Dominion + AQ (well, those who will fight for Bajor) at least will probably join. Am I correct in during the Borg problem in Destiny, any willing Dominion ships would have been too far to be of any help in the end? They'd be weeks away wouldn't they? At least by the time Bacco tried to get everyone together?

They'd be 70 or 80 years away, unless they came via the Bajoran Wormhole, in which case they'd probably be a few days away from getting anywhere useful.

I'm thinking it's most likely going to be just the latter. IMO the people in the MU have enough problems in their universe, they probably aren't going to want to get involved in ours too. As for the Dominion, Odo being one of only two Founders left, seems to be a perfect setup for them to come help with the Ascendants.
