Here are 10 people you have likely hear of who changed careers at 30 (and if they hadn't, you would not have heard of them).

So life lesson - don't give up because you hit a false barrier.

1. Sylvester Stallone, deli counter attendant and movie theater usher. Later wrote Rocky, won academy award and went from there.

2. Martha Stewart, stockbroker. two years later she bought a house and decorated it.

3. Julia Child, government spy for the OSI. She went to cooking school at 36.

4. Mao Tse-Tung, elementary school principal. He started the Red Army at 36.

5. James Joyce, singing. He wrote his first book at 32.

6. Harrison Ford, carpenter. He left acting after American Graffiti didn't pay well. Was offered the role of Han Solo at 34.

7. Rodney Dangerfield, aluminum siding salesman and acrobatic diver. He became a successful standup comic at 40.

8. Jesus, carpenter. He only lived a few more years but really made a name for himself in that time.

9. Andrea Bocelli, lawyer. Got a break as a singer at 34.

finally for those already past 30....

10. Col. Harland Sanders. Blue collar anything.. He counced around from job to job for years. He didn't fry a chicken until 40 and didn't franchise Kentucky Frid Chicken until he was 65!

So, no excuses..

That all sounds nice. I haven't given up...just hard to see a light in all this darkness surrounding my life now.

Mine may not be as spectacular, but I didn't marry my wonderful hubby or give birth to the beautiful daugter till after 30.

Hubby and I nearly hit 29 years and daughter has been a joy for 2? and counting ;) :D

I look at my 60 and figure it's the start of the NEXT 30.

^Yep, Aug 1 this year would have been 29 years married...I had really been hoping to hit 30 with him...or even better, laugh after Dec 2012. Gosh...he thought that was a great movie

i'll be 30 in about a year and a half, but it doesn't bother me. i'm very lucky in that i'm happy with the life that i have - an amazing husband, a gifted daughter and enough free time to watch at least one episode of st a night. :)

I plan on changing career when I'm 30 and again when I am 55-60. I would be pretty bored doing one career all my life.

Just turned 26. Haven't really developed professionally, yet. Finished my MA in psychology, had several unrelated jobs during my studies, did a stint of travel in Europe, and started another MA, which I'm about to quit 'cause it's hard studying in French.. And I'm at the juncture where I just want to get back home to the States and get yet another job unrelated to anything I've ever done or studied. Maybe this time, I'll strike gold.

When I finish up my Master's degree next spring, it will be a few months before my 30th birthday. I'm really hoping that my life will change and grow and become much more interesting around that time. Right now I feel like I'm stuck in a holding pattern.

As a twenty-nine year old, I thank you for this encouraging and uplifting post. It pretty much made my morning.
