Tumak got what he deserved, and Kira and Sisko should have agreed

It was extremely ridiculous that after Tumak open fired on other ships, Kira and Sisko were still going ballistic and yelling at the ships who got attacked to stand down. Tumak getting annihilated is entirely his own fault; he brought it on his own self 100%. Sisko and Kira look absolutely ridiculous by issuing those ludicrous orders whilst yelling and getting mad at innocent crews, instead of the guilty-as-sin Tumak.

This is not a tragedy like the show tries to present it as.

Besides, in a few years I think Tumak was going to become a psychopath like Lon Suder, only I'm sure Tumak would be way worse.

I grinned when the little snot died. Too good for 'im, I say! But really, he was an idiot and apparently a little nutty. Can't say I was fond of Haneek either. Wanted to pimpslap her for being pissy with Kira at the end of the ep.

I agree, that didn't work either. Her line to Kira is apparently supposed to show that Kira is wrong and she (Haneek) is a saintly heroine. Another absolutely ridiculous stance taken by the showrunners.

I guess the one good part of that line is it shows where Tumak got his psychopathic tendencies from and so at least it gives the impression of some sort of thought put into the writing, albeit unintentional.

Well, he WAS just a kid, they could have tractored him or disarmed him or something.

But yeah, Haneek did come off as a little bit holier-than-thou.

Oh I'd erased this episode from my memory and now it's back again...

*Going somewhere to hide to try to erase it again*

I too had erased episodes like this from my memory. But lately I've been re-watching them because in recent months there have been lots of posts in this board claiming that contrary to popular belief, DS9's first two seasons are amazing.

No doubt there are a few amazing episodes in them, and sometimes, great moments occur in mostly-unwatchable episodes.

But episodes like Sanctuary and Second Sight serve to remind me that the first two seasons aren't nearly so good as they are sometimes said to be on this board. Not to mention Melora, which is so abominable that I didn't even attempt to re-watch it.

They might have been trying to disable his vessel, it was destroyed due to the exchange igniting a fuel leak. So it might have been accidental unless the Bajoran ship crews purposefully targeted the leaking whatever.

He definitely did not think about his plan very thoroughly. What did he think would happen if he did manage to get to the surface? They would be rounded up and imprisoned and there would be a permanently sour note between the Bajorans and his people further killing any chances of them getting to stay or even visit Bajor.

He also fired on the Bajoran ships and they are entitled to defend themselves. Once you start doing that you are taking your chances with getting out of the situation alive.
