Short answer: I really like what I have seen so far, ie, first two episodes.
I have to echo what so many others have said. Had the rest of the preceeding series been at this level, TW might still be going now and avoided the ripping lots of viewers gave it.
The first part had that great sense of foreboding I loved so much in "Babylon 5" and, indeed in many episodes of TW's modern parent show. Unfortunately, thanks to not very considerate posters here, I already know what the 456 want and I already know who dies. Unbelievably I STILL really enjoyed the first two eps.
There is the usual trope of very clearly defined "little office mouse who will actually rise up and save the beleaguered heroes" but, again, that is okay because the rest of the production was THAT good.
I like the mention of Martha, whom I had almost completely forgotten about - nice touch anyway. The kids are genuinely creepy(as most kids, 'specially little blonde ones)in their monontonous and uniform possession. It is also good to know that the whole "there really are aliens" thing is pretty much accepted. Interesting to see that human society(or British at least)does not really change. I take that as an almost unintended comment on our own totally conceited and self absorbed nature.
If the shoe fits....
One thing that still bothers me is Gwen's accent. Not being a dumb-arse Yank who grew up ONLY with American shows and thus only ever heard my OWN accent, I can USUALLY understand almost ANY other. Gwen, however requires me to strain to the limits of my comprehension. It also may have something to do with the fact that she speaks quite fast. It is one of the FEW times watching a British tv show when I have wished for subtitles.
One thing I also really liked was Ianto's brother in law's reaction to him being gay - "Come here ya poof!" or whatever. It was complete acceptance but in such a familiar and cool way. Nice.
Watched Pt 2 on Monday and, as somebody said, some of it felt like filler but that was over shadowed by the ramping up of the 456 arrival and the horrific experience had by Jack. The resurrection scene was gross and made me wonder if immortality is such a good thing if you had to go through something as painful as THAT.
I loved how the b.i.l. and all the kids dealt with the spooks surveilling Ianto's sister. Exactly what WOULD happen on such an estate. I have to say, I HATE that government bitch who keeps trying to kill Jack. I hope she dies BADLY.
Again, really enjoyed it and look forward to watching Pt 3 sometime today.
Holidays RULE!!!!
