We're now halfway through the season and things are heating up ...

Bill issues an unpopular order; Eric embraces his amnesia; Luna makes a discovery about Sam; Lafayette expands his consciousness; Andy has a date with Holly; Jessica has doubts about the future of her relationship; Alcide and Debbie join a new pack.

Now THAT is how you do a cliffhanger.

I'm just thanking the television gods that we only have a week to go before we find out what happened ... Who got shot? And will Jason be able to save Jessica?

The part with Maxine chewing out her neighbor was hilarious ... especially her "I knew it" bit after the vamp started burning.

The Doc is back! And so is Crystal! Poor Crystal, trying so hard to keep Pam safe. Though I did get the idea that wasn't the first time she had been in that ... ahem ... position.

Favorite bit about the whole episode was at the very beginning when Kate comes in and she's playing Plants vs. Zombies ... I was thinking "I know that sound effect. I know that music" and then we see what she's playing ... Loved it!

Damn, Alexander Skarsgard has a nice ass on him. Seems like everyone is having sex except Jason. And his buddy Hoyt is right there just waiting for him.

Speaking of ... that was the one thing I didn't care for in this episode - Jason calling Hoyt "Bubba" ... Just a reminder of the real Bubba, who we will never see in this series. Everything else though, I was totally digging!

I don't blame him. Tommy keeps screwing over Sam again and again since the moment they met. I would have had it up to here with Tommy a lot sooner than Sam did.

I love the bonding moments between Bill and Jessica. It just shows how far they've come from the reluctant maker and child they were in Season 1.

I don't care at all for Alcide, Debbie, and Hoyt who has lessened as a character in my eyes. The whole thing with him and Jessica just pisses me off because Season 3 made a big thing out of why they should get back together and suddenly now in Season 4 they aren't meant to be together. They could have done that back in Season 3. And hasn't a year passed since they decided to move in? Why is that they are suddenly having these problems now? Couldn't have they had these problems during the past year? I don't know if Jason and Jessica are meant to be. Maybe they are. Maybe they aren't. Maybe Jessica would become the latest of Jason's line of women who he felt were his soulmates only to realize at the last moment that they were the opposite like Amy and Crystal. I mean, I find it too much for him to get into this romantic triangle with Jessica and Hoyt after he was gang-raped by a group of women. This time could have been used to have Jason go through an emotional journey of self-discovery and self-healing. Then you can have Jason consider being with someone else in the next season if you like.

I love the rising threat of the witches and the growing conflict between them and the vampires. It feels right concerning that the season takes place in the aftermath of RUssell Edington's on-screen terror that has increased prejudice aganist vampires. I wouldn't be surprised if many joined the witches' side, believing that vampires are a threat for legitimate reasons. I just hope this conflict has lasting consequences which don't pushed under the rug to restore the status quo.

On the subject of Sookie and Eric, I find their romance sweet and the build-up to them getting together felt right and natural. But Sookie is only seeing one part of Eric. If Sookie truly loves Eric, she needs to learn to love all of Eric, both the good and bad. Vampires and people in general are mixed bags with goodness and dark sides inside them. That's something I feel Sookie may say she's accepts but her actions and reactions say differently. Like with Bill, she acknowledges his dark side but when seeing it, she acts like it's a sudden surprise from him, a vampire. Sookie needs to grow up big-time if her relationship with Eric is to work out after he gets his memories back.

I like how Bill is being accepting of Eric and Sookie's romance and is learning to let go and focus on more important matters. I'm liking Bill's character growth. Some may see him as a big jerk this season but I find it interesting and profound that he has grown beyond his obsessive "I love Sookie and must protect her at all cost" behavior. I like we are exploring other parts of who he is.

I don't blame Sam for his angry reaction. He cares for Luna. However.....and this is coming from someone who loves the Sam character...he is acting awfully high and mighty for someone who committed cold blooded murder himself. Sam killed those two jewel thieves, but he was a jewel thief, too, and he was a con man who lied to people regularly if that flashback was to be believed and I assume it was. I'm sure he lied himself into a few bedrooms of wealthy women. His two victims weren't an immediate physical threat to Sam's physical safety. It wasn't self defense. They were just trying to steal his money. Hell, he killed the woman because she was a witness to him killing the man. Sam murdered them in anger. They weren't wrapping a chain around his neck. They'll never get the chance to reform and become fine, upstanding citizens themselves. Also, and this has always bothered me, the night Tommy stole Sam's money, Sam had kicked him out for nothing. I rewatched that episode. Sam was having his drunken tirade, calling his waitresses bitches, and Tommy refused to take the order pad to take orders (which Tommy did because he was illiterate. He said he "didn't need it, he could remember"). Then Sam kicked his ass out the door. His hero turned on him so Tommy got pissed off and stole his money. Not an appropriate reaction, but more understandable at a second glance. Hell, Sam stole Mary Anne's money when he saw her phasing out after they'd been in bed together. She hadn't done anything wrong to him at that point. For a murderer and a thief, Sam Merlotte is awfully judgmental of his younger brother who's no worse than him. Tommy is just like him, and Tommy didn't go knocking on Luna's door. It's still not entirely certain that his judgment wasn't impaired. It's not so black and white.

Jessica is so not dead. What a cheap little cliff hanger. Loving Tara and Marnie. Eric and Sookie make me want to vomit. Okay, I'll say it. When did Eric grow a vagina? He's a handsome man but there is zero chemistry with Sookie, especially while he's spouting the daytime drama love dialogue that people with penises never really utter. She won't accept him when he gets his memory back. He's still the same vampire he always was. He's just suffered a memory loss. I don't buy the romance because by its very nature it's temporary and based on a false view of Eric.

I'm liking Bill's character growth. Some may see him as a big jerk this season but I find it interesting and profound that he has grown beyond his obsessive "I love Sookie and must protect her at all cost" behavior. I like we are exploring other parts of who he is.

Can't agree with you about Sam but I do agree with this. Amazing how much more palatable and interesting Bill's character has become now that he's away from Sookie and his darker side is coming out.

I bet Jason gores her back into the house. Had to kill that guard though to do it. All in all, very enjoyable episode.

Damn.. True Blood is really back in form.

Apart from the useless Alcide storyline and the dreadful Skarsgard playing a neutered Viking Vampire god everything else is shaping up nicely to really awesome.

Shit has hit the fan big time this episode.. this is an open declaration of war and i can't wait to see what happens next. I'm counting on Jayson barreling down on Jessica like a pro safety and tackling her into the house and away from the sun (Vampires can stay in direct sunlight for a few seconds but that's it).

After that day the Vampire society will act and it will be bloody and i'd love to see Bill in war mode :techman:

Good to see the Sam/Tommy drama unfold and resolve so quickly.. i've seen similar things happen in other shows and they all seem to drag out the drama. Here it was resolved quickly and realistically and Tommy can thank god that Sam is managing his anger better or he would have probably died back then.

Anyway.. see ya next week!

I can't help but root for the witches.

If Jason murders a guard to save a vampire, TV Jason really is a sleaze everybody should ignore.

Alexander Skarsgard seemed pretty convincing making eyes at Russell, so I don't think making amnesiac Eric fly is an acting problem. It doesn't seem right psychologically he would be so easygoing about being amnesiac, much less want to keep this state. Nor does it seem like amnesia makes you willing to die at the order of your king. Sookie is an idiot for going for an amnesiac. She must be raging necrophiliac to explain that.

Medium Lafayette slipped off the vampire radar pretty easily. I suppose the bride of Chucky is there to provide his storyline with its own big bad. So far doesn't seem worth all the effort.

Great episode. Fun cliffhanger. I wish they'd give Andy some more to do; we've only been given little bits of his addiction to TruBlood, and I miss his interactions with Jason.

I can't help but think they just have no idea what to do with these characters anymore. They're all practically caricatures of themselves.

Everybody loves Sookie. Seriously. Four major male characters love(d) her (who knows why) and all Sookie's friends and family seem more than willing to forgive the fact she's hypocritical, self-righteous, and repeatedly AWOL from work and relationships because of her vamp obsession. Tommy isn't much of a character but he's the only person who's called Sookie out on her BS.

They've dropped all pretense with Jason and official made him the character that's "good at sex" and whose every single problem revolves around that.

Tara's back so the writers can work her towards another breakdown. She's the perpetual punching bag of True Blood. We may never find out if Rutina Wesley has a range beyond angry/sad/self-pitying.

And Eric, who used to be interesting, has been turned into some bizarro cross between Bill Compton and a boyscout. Where the hell that came from, who knows. Even when Eric was a human he was a dick.

TPTB have neutered Eric pretty well. I agree, Ryan. He's just too much of a woobie wussy, and Sookie is truly too stupid to live. She can forgive Eric for torturing her friends.....but she can't forgive Bill? Hell, Eric telling her was entirely self serving. Sookie was 25 when the series began. That's something a 16 year old would do--think a man would change just because he loves her. It's daytime drama.

Gods, Bill is so much better when he's not involved with Sookie. Better as in more interesting. Also, I have trouble seeing Antonia as a villain. She's got reason to hate vampires, as do hoardes of others. Pam is a bitch. She's entertaining, but she's a murderous bitch.

Sookie is a moron and at this point I just want to see how this whole thing bites her in the ass, just like everything does in the end.

Alcide/Debbie? Still pointless!

Jason/Jessica? What?? That's not a nice thing to do to Hoyt. :(

Tommy's lucky Sam didn't kill him.

I hope they find something for Tara to do besides be pissed off.

I like the new Bill. He works better as a "gray area" kind of character. Unfortunately, that seems to mean we get Eric as the "good" vampire now. Like I can really buy that. This amnesia shit is ridiculous. I want the old Eric back. This isn't character development, it's a cliche.

Finally getting to a point where I can buy the witches as villains this season. And it was all set up so well. Looking forward to seeing where it goes. :techman:

By the way, Fiona Shaw doing Antonia is perfectly convincing to me. A dual role without even changing costume or makeup is impressive acting, possibly the best the show's had.

I hate it when shows insist on making one of its most obnoxious characters be their 'lead.' I wouldn't bat an eye if Sookie were to suddenly disappear and never be seen on True Blood again.

E: Yeah, yeah, I know Sookie's the main character in the books and that'll never happen, but seriously. Bill became about a billion times cooler this season, while Eric has become about a billion times lamer. It can't be a coincidence that both developments happened either due to less Sookie (in Bill's case) or more Sookie (in Eric's case). :p

This was a really great episode. Most of the story arcs have gotten interesting by this point, which is not all that common on this show. I'm still not invested in the possessed babby story (ho hum), and Andy is not getting much to do this season, but other than that I don't have any real complaints with this episode. I like the development of Lafayette as a medium and think that could go to some interesting places.

Rosemary's Baby is going nowhere fast-- it was done better on Soap. :rommie:

Everything else is cool, though. I'm glad the "misunderstanding" with Sam's girlfriend didn't last long. The Witch plot is great; I can't wait to see where it goes next-- I hope Jessica doesn't burn up.

Appropos of nothing in regards to storyline, Sam Trammell's wife, Missy Yager (well, wife like Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russell been together for over a decade but not married) gave birth Tuesday night to identical twin boys. Congratulations to the couple. These are their first children. :techman:

Congratulations to them. Here's hoping the kids aren't possessed by dead serial killers. :bolian:
