Trouble with SFC1

I've been trying to play Starfleet Command Volume 1, however, the game suffers from a maddening lag whenever there's a lot of ships on screen or there's a close fly by with weapons fire.

I've downloaded the most recent version of DirectX, I've downloaded the 1.03 patch, I've tried running it in all four compatibility modes, but nothing seems to fix the lag problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try this...

Control panel...
Sound, speech and audio...
sound and audio,

In the speaker setting box click Advanced.

Now click performance and move the hardware slider to none.


I know this worked for Armada so its worth a try...
