Being the Season Seven adict that I am, I figured I do a review on the 2370 portion of Star Trek TNG. Below is a list of all 26 episodes from that season and the highlighted episodes are the episodes I liked the most.
## - 7x01 - Descent (2)
## - 7x02 - Liaisons
## - 7x03 - Interface
## - 7x04 - Gambit (1)
## - 7x05 - Gambit (2)
## - 7x06 - Phantasms
## - 7x07 - Dark Page
## - 7x08 - Attached
## - 7x09 - Force of Nature
## - 7x10 - Inheritance
## - 7x11 - Parallels
## - 7x12 - The Pegasus
## - 7x13 - Homeward
## - 7x14 - Sub Rosa
## - 7x15 - Lower Decks
## - 7x16 - Thine Own Self
## - 7x17 - Masks
## - 7x18 - Eye of the Beholder

## - 7x21 - Firstborn
## - 7x22 - Bloodlines
## - 7x23 - Emergence
## - 7x24 - Preemptive Strike
## - 7x25 - All Good Things (1)
## - 7x26 - All Good Things (2)
Let me get one other thing out the way, the main reason I like season seven so much is because Troi has that Cinderella look in 2370 with her auburn hair in those beautiful waves and it looks especially beautiful when she is in her blue uniform (the second reason I like season 7) with no bangs across her forehead. I just wish she had kept her hair like that in the Star Trek Generations movie.
I just wish she had started wearing that look since Liaisons... well, she sort of did but she wasn't in uniform in that one poker scene.
Now with the episodes, going in order now.
## - 7x04 and 7x05 - Gambit (1 & 2)
One reason, Baran. Though he served as the two-parter's antagonist, I liked that guy. No homo but he looks a bit womanly to me and I find it a bit interesting. Also, I love that face he made at the end of the part 2 where he pressed the thing on his belt, thinking he was killing Picard and killed himself instead.
Question (and this is needed for my novel): Did the Mercenaries favor Baran? For the plot in my novel, the Mercenaries want revenge against Picard for Baran's death. I do recall the one scene where "Gaylyn" (really Picard) was telling the Romulan woman (don't know her name) they don't respect him as a true leader anyway, and that they just follow under his command because he has that control thing.
Another thing I liked about Gambit is Ensign Giusti and if only Sabrina LeBeauf got to reprise her role as Ensign Giusti in another episode because she was an interesting character. Did she? I didn't pay that much attention to S7 outside of the mentioned episodes.
## - 7x06 - Phantasms
This episode is to be described in two words--horror episode. First off, why do people hate Braga so much. His writing was quite well with this episode.
The way Data just seemingly-magically appeared in front of the turbolift in the scene with Troi being stabbed was kind of unrealistic though. I know they wanted to make it horror-movie-ish but... yeah, I'm sure some of you get my drift.
I actually think the scene with one of the three men who shot Data's therapist kind of funny--how he arched over holding his chest then sat down.
I'm sure I'm not the only one but that Troi cake was interesting to me. I actually would like to try a cake like that--the black and blue food coloring and all for the icing.
## - 7x07 - Dark Page
The name of the title is interesting, first of all. It reminds me of something out of Yu-Gi-Oh.
What I like most about this episode are the scenes with Troi, dressed in her uniform, being in the dark corridors, with the white lights on at the bottom of the walls and how it looked so gray.
This was actually my first TNG episode when I was like a baby, and I was so addicted to the scene where she jumped off into space. I did speak about this in another thread but I just wanted to put this out there.
I also like Maquis. And was Kestra, Hedril's twin sister? They were both portrayed by Kristen Dunst and Kestra was Troi's dead sister and Hedril is Troi's LIVE sister.
## - 7x11 - Parallels
Nice concept. Though I like Troi better when she's in uniform, it was kind of interesting to see her wear that green dress again.
I also like the red jumpsuit she wore in the opening scene.
Riker: "Mister Worf, I hate surprises! I would never do that
to you."
LOVE that line.
Also, speaking of which, that blue dress Worf thought she was wearing before her clothes and hair change to the uniform, did Troi wear that blue dress in a past episode?
Also, this really bugged me.
Worf: "Captain, I was told you could not make it."
Picard: "I wouldn't miss this for the world!"
Um, Picard, you meant "universe", right? If Worf's not hallucinating, I'm like 95% sure you were all on the Enterprise which was in the galaxy.
Someone's comment on Youtube on this episode "No cellular peptide cake with mint frosting?"
Yeah, sure! Have Sirtis sit in that big box again and make her torso into that giant cake again, but this time with the red icing for the red jumpsuit! The red jumpsuit was my favourite of all her off-duty clothes.
I also thought the Ten Forward scene with Worf and Troi when he asked her to be Aleander's So-chin was kind of cute... even cuter was when Troi snuck into his quarters and gave him a gift at the end.
But Troi, that was nice of you to give Worf a gift at all, but with the pink wrapping paper, though? Tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk...
## - 7x14 - Sub Rosa
Sadly, the first and only episode we see Troi with her bang-free Cinderella hair and in the blue dress uniform.
For a guy, I like this episode because of the romantic theme behind it--that Ronin guy trying to seduce Beverly into loving him and things like that.
Episodes 16 - 19 I'm too lazy to talk about, and besides, I don't wanna make this too long. I just say I really liked them and leave it at that.
## - 7x23 - Emergence
The last holodeck episode this series. I love the kind of train that they used! The Victorian-style interior was beautiful!
OH! I just love how in the second train scene, when Data, Worf, and Troi board it, they do so without phasers at their sides, knowing there are gun-totting characters on that train.
I have to ask--
Was Marina Sirtis pregnant while S7 was being worked on? In Masks, when Troi is examining Masaka's temple... when the cameraman films Marina from the floor, you can see her stomach pooching out a bit through her uniform. Same in the scene with Worf and Troi in her quarters before she takes her seat in Eye of the Beholder.
Patrick Steward did a nice job directing and filling his role as Picard by the way in Phantasms. I like that Steward also directed Preemptive Strike. Not that I have a problem with it, but wouldn't it make more sence that the actors also serving as directors for episodes direct episodes that they have tiny appeances in?
For example...
Patrick Steward could've directed Thine Own Self
Marina Sirtis could've directed The Pegasus and Preemptive Strike
LeVar Burton could've directed Dark Page
And Gates McFadden directing Genesis was fine since we didn't see that much of Beverly anyway.
Well... it's a bit interesting how Picard was only in the end of Thine Own Self. Was Patrick Steward unavailable when that episode was being made? Was Marina Sirtis unavailable when Preemptive Strike was being made?
In All Good Things... in the first present Observation Lounge scene, when Picard asks Troi about when he first reported on-board the ship, I like how the camera crew did a close-up of the side of Sirtis' face. She looks like Captain Janeway in that shot.
Speaking of All Good Things... it's interesting how they did the same courtroom, and the same judge's attire on Q as they did in Encounter at Farpoint. Only difference, Picard was in his present-day uniform. Now it would've been more interesting if Troi and Data were there because they were
with him in EaF.
My list of S7 top episodes from best to worst
Masks
Dark Page
Thine Own Self
Emergence
Sub Rosa
Eye of the Beholder
Gambit (1 & 2)
Genesis
Phantasms
Dark Page didn't make it all the way to the top because this was a sad episode. The dark aboretum scene was sad.
And Thine Own Seve probably would've made second, maybe first, place if Troi's story would've dominated this episode, which was kind of unfair given the fact that Data got this episode, and the succeeding Masks episode.
I found it quite interesting how (as somebody mentioned in another thread) how Season Seven was like a family reunion season. I didn't notice that until they pointed it out but I see how---
Family reunions in TNG Season 7:
Data and his evil twin (Descent)
Geordi and his mom (Interface)
Troi and her mother and father (Dark Page)
Data and his mother and father (Inheritance)
Worf and his brother (Homeward)
Beverly and her grandmother (Sub Rosa)
Spot and her kittens (Genesis)
Beverly and her son (Journey's End)
Worf and his son (Firstborn)
Picard and his son (Bloodlines)
... wait, was Jason Picard's real son or not?
So yeah, it's kind of interesting how they set that up...
Exclusive producer: "Hey, since Season Seven is the last season we're doing, let's let all the characters have a family reunion before the show ends!"
Spot question--
Thoroughout the entire series in general, they got confused about Spot's gender until she gave birth to her kittens in Genesis. In Star Trek Generations, she was there. Did they call her a boy or a girl? I don't have access to the movie. I can't find it anywhere on the net. Grrr!
