Both those biometric scanning devices are highly-disturbing. After all if you can reasonably scan blood vessels and blood absorbs IR/NIR differently when oxygenated and de-oxygenated, you could use that to read brain activity and effectively "read minds".

No, we are a long way from that. Medicine is still more to do with carpentry than anything--especially setting bones. Just as the space shuttle tiles made its repair (via spackling) more out of THIS OLD HOUSE--what with the orbiter having more in common with a two-storey brownstone than an airplane--skin wise at least.
 
You know, I can just imagine on the day of the judging, the X-Prize guys hire Bob Picardo to sit at the table first:

Picardo: Tricorder?

[Company official hands over the prototype. Picardo looks it over, then hands it back]

Picardo: MEDICAL tricorder!
