Tricky Malware

This URL (http://url.adtrgt.com) don't click it, keeps popping up in IE and Firefox periodically. I blocked the site, but the browser is still popping up!!

I have run Symantec AntiVirus, AdAware and Spybot, and even System Mechanic-- and none of these have been able to solve this problem. I do have "hijack this" but I can't make heads or tails of the results.

Can anybody help with this?

Which version of Windows?

Running a software firewall? Which one? Using a router on a broadband Internet connection with its security functions?

In what way did you attempt to block the site? Hosts file? IE "zone" setting? Pop-up blocker?

Do the pop ups appear in whatever browser you have been using, or the default browser you have set in the operating system?

Have you checked the Start menu's Programs\Startup folder for a shortcut that could be opening the windows? Did you check both you individual account's folder and the folder for "All Users"? Have you checked for entries in MSCONFIG that could be associated with the pop-ups?

Send your HijackThis log to me via PM or email. I should be able to tell you what to get rid of. You will want to do this in Safe Mode, though, to keep it from coming back.

To get to Safe Mode, press F8 right as Windows starts to boot up.
