Trent Reznor scoring "The Social Network"

Trent Reznor, the solo act behind Nine Inch Nails, is scoring David Fincher's The Social Network with composer Atticus Ross (The Book of Eli). This would be Reznor's first time contributing the musical score for a film. Reznor has had songs attached to films before, like Fincher's own Se7en (which featured an instrumentation, non-lyrical version of Reznor's "Closer" for the opening credits).

The Social Network, directed by Fincher, works from a script by Aaron Sorkin and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield (the new Spider-Man). I read the script and it was a fantastic read. I'm looking forward to this film, and the pedigree here is immeasurable. Fincher, Sorkin, Reznor? Count me in.

I'm a big NIN fan so I'm intrigued to see what Reznor comes up with. He's done a lot of interesting instrumental work in the past so I can imagine him composing an effective score for this type of thriller.

Something like Ghosts I-IV maybe? I know it was made with indie film scoring in mind.

Also if anyone else is interested Reznor's side-band How To Destroy Angels (can a one-man group really have a side project?) released a free 6-track EP. Personally I'm really digging The Space In Between and A Drowning (which reminds me a lot of Right Where It Belongs).

Interesting. I'm not really a NIN fan, but they did some good stuff.

If he does half as good scoring as Trevor Rabin or Danny Elfman, he'll do pretty well.

When I posted the Soundworks Collection's featurette exploring the sound mixing of David Fincher's The Social Network it received a warm online welcome and was watched by several folks
.

now the Soundworks Collection has posted a 45-minute question and answer session with Reznor, Ross and sound re-recording mixer, supervising sound editor Ren Klyce.
