There may be more, however, I can only recall one time when a new piece of technololgy was used in only one episode, it then vanished never to
be seen again.

In DS-9 ep "For the Uniform" the Chief had installed a piece of hardware, it brought up a holo image onto the bridge of the Defient. It was used to bring Capt Sanders onto the bridge and then Mr Eddington used it.
Does anyone recall this device ever being used on any other Trek film or Series.

It was also used in "Dr. Bashir, I presume," though it was ON the station.

I always thought the barion sweep (from TNG's Starship Mine) would make a good weapon... it would wipe out all life on a ship but keep everything else undamaged.

In Blood Oath, dax concocted a plan that was so easy to execute where they could approach the planet and beam down undetected.

I think that trick where they replaced Pulaski's aged DNA was only done once. I guess that guy from Arsenal of Freedom settled on immortality cures too early.

Oh hell, lots of examples.

Subcutaneous transponders from "Patterns of Force".
Allowed the ship to track the landing party for later beam-up without communicators.
Great idea, never seen again.

Geordi's away team "A/V" recording gadget from "Identity Crisis".
Allowed those detailed mission videos, but never saw that used again.

The Kelvans somehow revamped the Enterprise's engines in order to make it to the Andromeda galaxy. But we never saw the Enterprise with that potential again (for the most part).

Kironide injections giving the crew psionic powers and telekinesis. Used once, never again. Maybe only worked on Platonius.

These are just off the top of my head. If I start thinking, I'm sure I'll get more examples.
