TrekCore: Exclusive S3 Recovered Footage!

Waiting for the next Cycle

I just saw that TrekCore has managed to get a hold of some newly rediscovered footage from Sins of the Father which didn't make it into the Blu-Ray release. You can find the article here.

It sounds very interesting but unfortunately my connection at work isn't good enough to view the scenes. It'll have to wait until I get home.

Thanks TrekCore! :bolian:

I'm all for a remaster and insertion of the following deleted scenes from the video:

ACT THREE, SCENES 36A - C
That humorus moment that should have been left in.

ACT FIVE, SCENES 57 - 60
This one that clears up some continuity problems with Worf's parents and Worf during the attack.

Not all them are necessary for reinsertion though, especially ones that no longer fit because the episode was scored after the cut (as you can hear in some of the deleted scenes). There's no need to butcher the score to try and make them fit and I certaiunly don't want some synth work added after-the-fact to try and make it work.

This is great! Thanks for the tip!

Yes, that's too bad about the score.

Some very interesting stuff there. :techman: I wish more of it had been included in the finished version. I have seen some TNG and DS9 scripts with content that was apparently either unfilmed or not used in the final version (I can post a link for those interested, but two such scripts are "The Offspring" and "Way of the Warrior"), but I wasn't aware of such scenes for "Sins of the Father."

Hm, many of the TrekCore pages are showing as "404 Forbidden" for me. The above link works though.

I had that problem with the TNG section, though not others (DS9, VOY and Movies worked for me).

Please do.

There is something thrilling about seeing something you weren't meant to see in the first place like that footage.

AFAIK, TNG and DS9 are complete. The other sections unfortunately don't have nearly the same number of episodes. Most of these scripts are similar to the final versions with the exception of extended scenes, with the interesting exception being "Loud as a Whisper." This version appears to be a much earlier draft of the script, in which Geordi was intended to have a larger interaction with Riva than in the final version. Many of the lines that became Troi's were written initially for Geordi, and the Chorus doesn't die (the ambush is deliberate however, unlike the final version). They rely on a device to help them communicate with Riva and this is damaged in the attack. Personally, I like the finished version better in a lot of ways.

I would have liked to see the extra dialogue in "The Offspring" mainly because it gives Admiral Haftel a better reason for wanting to remove Lal, and I've always found it interesting that Lore never comes up. He could certainly be cited as proof of what happens when a Soong-type android has dangerous programming. "Sons of Mogh" has some extra dialogue in a few scenes as well, along with WOTW. The main alteration there is the scene where Kira and O'Brien are talking about the weapons upgrades, and Kira suddenly asks about his fantasy life. This would have tied into the other scenes in the episode where Kira and Dax are doing various holodeck things and explained why they're doing so, but the finished scene is only the first part and kind of a missed opportunity (IMO).

Edit: Looks like the script for "Sins of the Father" does contain many of the cut elements, though not all of them. Troi would have beamed down to the Imperial City as well, telling Worf that the crew would never think of him as a disgrace even if other Klingons did. Also, along with several other scripts, it includes English translations of the Klingon dialogue so it's possible to read what the characters were saying. Been a while since I looked at these.

Good scenes, but good removals too. There was some clever editing cutting into shots while retaining the gist of the scene.

Now the teaser scene with Kurn and Wesley makes sense. I didn't really get why Wesley responded with "one quarter impulse, engaged, SIR!", but now it does because Kurn had to give the order twice since Wesley did not initially respond.

Geordi hacking the Klingon network definitely should have stayed.

True, Kurn appears now justified and Wesley looks like a spoiled brat.

About Geordi: The way they responded to his hacking shows that there is still a lack of integrity and some potential for corruption going around in the federation. Sorry, but that needed to be said.

Maybe it's just me, but I always saw Wesley as a brat in that scene. He gets mildly pissy just because someone uses a word other than engage? Would he have done that to a different captain who took over the Enterprise? Jellico would have wrecked that little turd. :)

These workprint VHS tapes are likely thrown away, but all these deleted scenes still exist on the original film along with the rest of the footage.

Trek TV footage is in good hands, unlike say Farscape. What a shame.
