Trek XI = Extreme Deja Vu (minor spoilers)

Somehow I doubt Abrams is one of the six people who've seen (Read? Listened to?) it. No rip-off there.

I disagree. Go to www.startrekofgodsandmen.com and watch it for yourself.

Trek XI - Kirk's dad dies, everything changes.
STOGAM - Kirk's mum dies, everything changes.

It's the same!

But if Abrams has never seen or even heard of it, which seems likely, he couldn't have ripped it off.

The Trek XI forum is no place for logic or rational thought. Therefore, I am hereby declaring Abrams an unimaginative hack who ripped off a fan production and raped my childhood by doing so. You could say he has zero respect for the fans.

Don't you mean 0ZERO respect for the fans?

"Yesteryear", the TAS episode, is closer. Old Spock realises the timeline has been changed and must travel back it time to restore it. We see young Spock being bullied by Vulcan classmates, Sarek and Amanda in their early days, a Vulcan city...

Right...

And even if we stipulate that the plot rumors are true about Nero going back and destroying the Kelvin with George Kirk on board, we don't know if Nero's intention in going back in time was to specifically kill George Kirk.

Nero may have had other reasons for destroying the Kelvin, and George Kirk may have just been collateral damage.

If this is the case, then it is nothing like ST:OGAM, but is instead linked to all other Star Trek Time Travel stories by that plot device (time travel) only.

Speaking of Of Gods and Men, the Uhura voiceover where she painfully and awkwardly explains where everyone is who isn't appearing in the movie, that's textbook fanwank there and why you don't listen to the fans to tell your story.
