Illusion Arts, the company that did stunning matte work for the opening of FIRST CONTACT and NEMESIS and other shots for GENERATIONS and for Q WHO on TNG, just closed, apparently because California waited too long to start helping the local vfx businesses (lots of companies going out now.)
IA was headed up by Al Whitlock's apprentices, guys who really knew their stuff. Syd Dutton is apparently going to Zoic, so at least he'll be somewhere he is appreciated. There's a story on the vfxplanet website about this, I think.
When really good boutique houses fold, it is a very very bad thing for movies; smaller-budget films wind up having to either sacrifice days of shooting to pay for a high-end fx facility or settle for crap fx that aren't what they're worth from low-end scummy companies, so IA going bye-bye makes for a bad day.
