Trek Online Voyager spoiler

The Grim Ghost

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Spoilers, you've been warned!!

In the new Star Trek Online novel which is set in a different continuity than regular Trek lit books, Janeway never died and is in command of the USS Tucker.

Thought that would make a few people here happy. I haven't read it, so I have no idea how large a role she plays in it.

I'm a happy camper.

Wouldn't she be about 80 during STO? Nice that she's still captaining.

I thumbed through it briefly and went "uh, no" and put it back on the shelf. The story seemed to be presented in the form of various journal entries (like a collection of random newspaper articles/editorials) rather than a direct narrative...maybe the format changes later on, I dunno, but that style was an immediate turn-off for me.

This spoils more than just that book/series:
Janeway dies?

I mean, all humans die eventually, but I take it in one of the books I haven't read (or possibly a movie I haven't seen) Janeway dies.
At least you were vague enough that I have no idea when or where, but you proceed from the assumption that anyone interested in Trek Online novels would know that, but not that she's alive in the new book.

^ I'm sorry if it spoiled too much for you.

But we are talking about events from a book released in 2008. They were discussed in great detail on the Treklit board and also on this board.

I don't think it is too much to assume that most Janeway fans on Trekbbs who follow the novels would know about her death by now.

But I guess everything is a potential spoiler to somebody. Anyway it isn't in a movie, so you are free to ignore it.

There have been a lot of debates about this issue, very heated debates indeed. I don't know if it's a loss or a blessing for you that you haven't noticed it.

As for me, well I'm against the character destruction we have seen in episodes and books recently.

But if the Trek Online game has Janeway alive and well and ALL the other characters as well, then I'm very interested in it! :techman:

Well, like any interactive game between two combative sides, there will be lots of battling and destruction, with loss of personnel and equipment. It's a computer game with Klingons, Borg, Hirogen and Species 8472 (the Undine). But yes, Admiral Janeway exists again, just as we told you she'd be back eventually.

You can't keep a good woman down, thanks ST Online (well, at least for now, but at least this is something). KJ Lives (but we knew that anyway), cheers, Gs.

Well, if they bring her back in the books as well, then I might get back some of my interest for the books too. :)

I read the first chapter on Amazon.com. I didn't care for that format either. The game is cool, but I won't be buying the book.

"Star Trek Online: The Needs of the Many" by Michael A Martin and "Jake Sisko".

Sorry, I must have mixed a few things up here, most notably an online game and a book.

However, when it comes to Janeway's come-back, I'm still referring to the Voyager Relaunch books. But I will check out "The Needs Of The Many".

I actually am excited in a way. Might be some hope for the future, and yes I will check out this series. :)

Don't get your hopes to high:

a) So far it's just a one shot book, it will depend on the success of this one if there are more novels in this universe (which is separated from the standard continuity of the novels)

b) It's not a novel in the traditional sense, but a collection of interviews conducted by Jake Sisko about the "Undine War" (Undine=Species 8472), a war that happened between Nemesis and the Star Trek Online game. One of many people interviewed is Janeway.

There's a link to an interview with the author of the book in my sig, but there's nothing about Janeway specifically in it.
