Trek Guest Star on Medium Last Night

Just wanted to alert people that William Schallert, aka Nilz Baris of The Trouble With Tribbles (and the father on the Patty Duke Show), guested on Medium last night. Just a small part--he was this old rich guy murdered in the opening scene. His hair is very white but his face is the same. I looked for his name in the opening guest star credits and sure enough, it was there. Nice to see he's still acting...

Wow, he's still around; that's great, thanks. And by chance, I was just going upstairs to take a look at that episode. I have that show in my TiVo Season Pass.

 I just saw him. "J. Donald Kessinger" got even less respect than Nilz Baris! At least the undersecretary didn't get killed. Honestly, I would not have recognized him at all if you hadn't pointed it out. More power to him to still be acting at age 87; he was actually pretty comical.

Actually, I thought the whole episode was pretty comical, in a cute sort of way, rather than a "laugh out loud" way. I find some episodes of Medium interesting but others fairly forgettable. Friday's, especially with the "bonus" of Schallert's appearance, was a nice change of pace.

Awww, wish I'd known! I met him at Shore Leave in 2006. Got to chat with him for a bit while getting an autograph and had a photo op, too. What a lovely man!

jiNX-01, that was the first run of that episode; so it will be on again.

I'll never be able to think of Schallert as anyone but Patty Duke's dad.
"One pair of matching bookends -- different as night and day!"

I remember the Patty Duke Show, but wasn't really a regular watcher. I'd probably think of him sooner for the Baris role or for his two-episode turn as Frank Harper on The Wild Wild West (Schallert was one of several actors to fill in the partner role while Ross Martin was recovering from a heart attack.) Of course, you saw him in guest starring parts on everything in those days, so I guess I don't associate him as much with a single show.

Good to hear he's still working, though. He seems a great guy and has always been a talented and versatile actor.

Ah! I just finished watching the series on DVD and I wondered why Ross was AWOL through so much of the last season!

I loved Artie, but I still liked the show with Schallert and the other guest cast, too. I have been digitizing my season sets for iPod lately.

I think he went to the same college as the older brother on Happy Days... :)

Yes, I always like hearing about the more "down to earth" celebrities.
