Trek Cybernetics

It seems like cybernetics has only really been delved into with the Borg. We don't really get a good look at Starfleet cybernetics, for example.

And why do the Klingons have so much cyber hate? They do the ritual suicide thing when they're not able to fight, but, as evidenced by Chang and Martok, they also refuse cybernetics which could restore physical prowess lost due to injury.

Yea, as with genetics, it seems any type of body modification is repugnant in the Star Trek setting.

Never understood Starfleet's rationale. Someone with ADHD who wants a mental "boost" so he can be a more productive worker isn't going to become another Khan.

I just remember Nog had the biosynthetic leg. I geuss Geordi could be a cyborg, after he got the artificial eyes.

I can understand the Klingon philosophy of shunning body mods. If a warrior cannot fight as he is, with a whole and working body, then he would be unworthy of the honour and glory that comes with winning the battle.

I guess Picard could technically be considered a cyborg. And I just remembered Akuta from TOS' The Apple.

I recall them talking about Romulan cybernetic technology before, but I don't think we've ever seen it.

I do not think Federation shuns corrective cybernetics. As noted, Picard had an artificial heart and Geordi artificial eyes. What they shun is transhumanism, they do not want to "enhance" people with either cybernetics or genetic engineering.
