As long as they keep Archer in the past I don't see a problem in doing something like this. Fanwankery can be fun as long as it's used sparingly.

Not sure about the assemble bit. Time-travel is overdone and Generations proved one set of fans always come away disappointed, even when they avoid it. I've always wanted to see a story that epic, it crosses three centuries though. "How the West Was Won" style, with a revolving generational cast. I don't necessarily see that as fanwankery. It would only a require a long-lived alien to cause trouble with three different Enterprises. It would be a great way for a TV Movie level production to celebrate the 50th Anniversary.
