How much, if anything, would you be willing to pay on a monthly basis for a STAR TREK channel. Nothing but Star Trek. Lord knows there is enough material out-there. And if it generated enough biz they could make original material for the channel as well.....

They have 11 movies to use...600+ hours of episodes...cartoons...they could do a book review (sell the books too) hour...heck lots of stuff they could do with an all trek channel...but it would come down to how much the core fans (you) would be willing to pay...

Ooh, sorry, Robert, but none. I'm fairly hardcore, but that's what DVDs are for, I think.

The original material would be cool. I just can't imagine that much original material. Maybe I don't have a good enough imagination.

that would be awesome . . . I'd never turn it off!

actually I don't think it's about how much we'd pay for it, but how many advertisers they could get to buy ad time
which would depend on projected viewership figures
but yes, a portion of your cable bill would go to CBS/Paramount for the channel, but largley the channel would be supported by ads

Well..I want to keep this COMMERCIAL free...so you have to pay...a half-million subscribers would bring in 300 million bucks at 50$ a month..thats a lot

Not everyone would afford it...I could. 600$ a year for a hi-def star trek channel? SHATNER could have a talk show..heck...anyone could...and at $300 millon a year, they could pay for follow-ups to TNG or DS9 and or new material...even if they only got 250 thousand subscribers thats still 150 million buckeroos...

I don't think there is quite enough material to fill a 24/7/365 schedule with just Star Trek. Nor do I think there'd be enough customer demand to support it if there was enough material.

That is not a good sign...If the network also, with the megabucks it rakes in, made original series or movie-of-the-week material based on previous TREKS (what ever happened to Kira? Or Seven/Nine when voyager came back to Earth..ect) it might attract enough viewers to warrent an acceptable price. 50 bucks might be too high...but i think this is the current best way to get new TREK material done, and more importantly, get quantified TV ratings and make a profit...I think it could be done...

A Trek TV channel would be a joke it would consist of relentless TNG reruns (of mostly the first two seasons), TOS at 5am, Voyager on once every other month at 1am, ENT on in the afternoons at 4pm, the animated series on Saturday mornings, and DS9 is nowhere to be found.

Not saying there aren't enough Trek fans to support there being new Trek. The ongoing publishing of ST-related books and comics, not to mention the impending release of the new movie say there is.

I am saying that Trek fans as a group do not ocnstitute enough audience for an entire cable channel dedicated to nothing but Trek, besides the fact that there isn't enough Trek in existence to fill up a programming schedule for such a channel if it did get on the air.

There'd have to be original content/programming at the outset for me to consider paying for such a channel. I already have "Star Trek On Demand" just by going to my DVD library, or powering up my Zune. The idea that they'd take my money and "maybe offer original content down the road, if we make enough money" doesn't cut it in this day and age. They've already got my money for the existing material, several times over.

I think there is. The network would not really be on 24 hours aday...it would have paid-infomericals like they all do in the day time..then it would come on at 4pm and go until 10pm....it would take 150+days to get through the entire series (s)...and you would still have the movies...cartoon..and whatever original programing they could come up with...if you did 4 hours of reruns (already broadcasted trek series) and 2 hours of new programing...each one hosted by a celeb host one time, another celeb host the next time through...throw in endless interviews you could do ...i think it would work..

Build a good enough (quality) stadium..and people will come...

if you could get them to see NEMESIS, you could get them to follow this...but with quality JOB one!! (hard to imagine with Paramount..I know)

I agree with JustKate. I mean, think about it. Why would one want to watch a Trek TV channel when many of us already have the ability to pick any given ep from any given season of our favorite show and go "Hey, that was a good episode. I feel like watching it" and do so. Consider that as opposed to turning on a TV channel and just hoping to the prophets it isn't a season 1 TNG episode or one of the worse TOS episodes.

And new stuff is a neat idea, but I'm not sure how much of it there would be that would be worth anything.

Throw in trivia as they do with 2.0...perhaps you can log on with your computer, and chat with others as they watch it as well...Do "KLINGON WEEK' or "BEST BABES WEEKS"....make it interactive with the guest host who is hosting...why not get Frakes to host OFFSPRING and you can chat with him and ask him questions...I think there is a ton of stuff to do, beyond just airing reruns, that would attract fans.

But that's the rub, isn't it? Aside from the new stuff, this entire channel is based on just that: airing reruns. And I think that's what people would see in it.

Some thoughts...Original programming is a MUST. I'd also like to see it be a home for fan films like Phase II (yes Paramount would be legitimizing them).

RAMA

I wouldn't want an only Star Trek channel per say, but Sci-Fi channel is seriously going to hell in a handbasket.

There needs to be a dedicated network that shows reruns of classic sci-fi without the C grade movies, wrestling and paranormal crap.

How much can it cost to program a computer to run syndicated television shows all day?

Nothing. I already have all the Star Trek that I could ever want on DVD.

Unless of course, you're going to pretty much guarantee I get my 5th season of Enterprise.

In which case, HELL YEAH! How much do want? I'd suffer the endless commercials for 20 brand new episodes every year... preferably with the Season Four writing staff reunited, to fill in those Romulan War & Birth of the Federation blanks.

Oh and Jeffrey Combs in the cast, full-time. :techman:
