Trek Books at NYCC '08

DarkHorizon

So, I was browsing through the panel list for this year's New York Comic Con (I'm not going, just curious :)) and this one caught my eye:
Friday [April 18th]
5:00 PM-6:00 PM
Star Trek Books 2008

This bit in particular:
A special limited edition sampler of Pocket's upcoming arc of epic novels, KOBAYASHI MARU, GREATER THAN THE SUM, and the DESTINY trilogy, will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Crap, I don't think I can make it Friday but this might make it worth trying.

I hope that's wrong, because I was told that was happening on Saturday afternoon at 1pm. If it's Friday at 5pm, then I can't be there — and it also means my wife and I postponed our trip to Cancún for no good reason.

Well, that would suck. IIRC, The NYCC was not very good the last two years with having a set schedule ahead of time though.

Well, then they have indeed screwed up their schedule, for all concerned. Needless to say, I hope you contact them and remind them of what they told you so this can be salvaged.

:censored: idiots.

The books are already finished, completly edited and even printed?:wtf:
It's either a very bad 1. of April - joke or something really strange goes on here...
Or are we talking about some kind of voucher, so that the people will get the books earlier than street date, once they left the printing plant sometime later this summer?

^ I guess it is a collection of excerpts from the novels.
There's nothing in the text even remotely suggesting that the people would get the finished novels.

It's a sampler -- chapter excerpts from upcoming books, maybe stapled or inexpensively bound somehow. Not finished books.

And the first two books of the Destiny trilogy are written, and I'll be finishing book three sometime during the next two weeks. I think GTTS and KM are both also written.

^^Yeah, I did the first-pass galleys for GTTS just a week or so ago, so as far as my end of the process is concerned, it's finished. But I doubt it would be feasible to get it actually printed in book form by the 18th.

Cool. If anyone here gets a copy, feel free to scan the cover and email it to me for my website...

So, is the panel confirmed for Friday afternoon? We're supposed to go up to visit my wife's friend in Brooklyn that Saturday. I'm trying to figure out a way to go up and go to my first Comic-Con, and maybe sleep over somewhere on Friday night.

I wanted to go last year but at the last minute, something came up. I was going to go this year (isn't this held in the summer or winter?) but this year the con falls on Passover and I'll be up Upstate (NY).

It sucks when these things are in your town and you can't even go. :(.

^ Unfortunately, it'll now be only a half-hour event, not a full hour. So if anyone has questions to ask that there isn't time for at the panel, they should drop by the Pocket booth on the convention's exhibition floor to chat with the editors, or with the writers at their scheduled signing times.

I think I'm scheduled for a signing on Saturday from 1:30pm to 2pm, but I'll have to check with Pocket to make sure that's correct.

I'm apparently scheduled for a signing on Sunday at 10:30 AM -- not sure of duration. And I'll be generally hanging around the Pocket booth from time to time as well.
