Trek 11 questions (Spoilers?)

In the EW piece a few months ago, they indicated a few sources that the movie drew from. The indicated the novels "Prime Directive" and "Best Destiny". I've read PD and I'm almost finished with BD. Does anyone know if there is any mention of Robert April in the new movie? BD has a lot of stuff about teenage Kirk being difficult. That might fit in with the line that Pike says in the trailer about "...not fitting in."

Also, where in Trek canon was the first time they indicated Kirk's mom's name as Winona? That's what it is in BD and I noticed it was in Vonda McIntyre's "Enterprise" novel of about 20 years ago.

Thanks

We figured this out in another thread, and it seems that the incident with the Kelvin may actually put the construction of the Enterprise behind schedule (no new ships until there are tech upgrades?), resulting in it being there for Pike to be its Captain, but not April. It just plain got built too late. (This accounts for the different look of the ship and its very different interior.)

Like the name "Hikaru" Sulu, the name was coined in the novels and will be canonised in a movie.

Paul McGillion's character is yet to be named. ;)

Really? I guess I just don't require a lot of explanation as to why things are different. I think in the new timeline, the enterprise is being built when it is being built just because...

then again, I have never been one for canon... etc..

Like I said in another thread, I think we will see events in this film unfold (such as the costruction of the Enterprise in Iowa), but we WON'T get a comparison between what is happening in the film and what we trek fans know what "should" be happening.

...that is to say, an alternate reality may be displayed on screen, but only the fans who know star trek will notice. The casual viewer will not know enough to make comparisons, nor will knowing the "real timeline" be required to enjoy the film to its fullest.

I think Orci's "Quantum Physics" explanation is simply for the sake of the fans and has nothing to do with the actual story in the film.
