Tough question.

Kobayshi Maru

Commodore
Commodore
Chakotay was left out of the loop when Janeway, Tuvok and Tom Paris were trying to flush out the traitor on Voyager, why?

And don't tell me that that's so Chakotay's anger would be more convincing because that's just insulting. I can understand why Chakotay was miffed when he learned that! I would be too if I were him. He was treated like an idiot, and definitely not like a senior officer. So rank doesn't mean anything anymore!

The bad guy they were trying to outthink was Chakotay's exgirlfriend.

Serious but, I would have picked Dalby to be the pretend malcontent to pretend leave.

Problem is, that Seska probably didn't want him.

As i said on the season 2 mini arc thread, it was just for shits and giggles

(and so soon after Chakotay had been fooled by Seska and Tuvok.....Tuvok obviously had a low opinion of him and thought..."you know what would be fun...if we did it again"....and Janeway was like...."oh yeah, let's totes do that")

First of all, it would help if you referred to the specific episode/s in question, since until I did research to figure out you were talking about Michael Jonas, I had no idea what you were talking about. What ep did Janeway leave Chakotay out of the loop?

The reason why is explained in "Investigations".
JANEWAY: Some weeks ago, Tuvok discovered evidence of covert transmissions leaving Voyager through the EPS system. We realised there was someone on this ship communicating with the Kazon-Nistrim.
TUVOK: However, we were unable to ascertain who that person was.
JANEWAY: We needed a way to flush out the spy, and we had exhausted all conventional means. That's when we thought of using Tom, finding a way to get him on the Kazon ship.
CHAKOTAY: Are you saying Paris's insulting behaviour, the gambling, being late for duty, mouthing off at me, was all a ruse?
TUVOK: That is correct. It was important that his decision to leave the ship appear plausible, so he began behaving like a malcontent.
CHAKOTAY: And the reason I wasn't let in on this little plan?
TUVOK: I was the one who recommended to Captain Janeway that you not be told. I suspected that the spy was a Maquis, and felt it was wrong to put you in a position of setting a trap for someone who had once served under you.
CHAKOTAY: In other words, you didn't trust me.
JANEWAY: Commander, the simple fact is, we needed a good performance. I'm afraid we used you to help Tom provide it. And you did a damn good job.
Now if I just insulted you, I'm sorry. But that's the only explanation we're given.

I meant insulting to chakotay. I am sorry but I thought it was obvious from the context.

That is something that probably should have bothered Chakotay more. It's like how in Parallax when he said "I have no intention of being your token Maquis!" That's what he should have felt like at the time.

Is it not possible that Chakotay was secretly thrilled with his new life and therefore willing to over look a few things. Maybe he was sick of the Maquis, sick of the fighting and suddenly Voyager gave him a position of power and influence (i'm the first officer on a God damn starship....this is awesome!)

How qualified was Chalotay exactly. Janeway says he has command experience but that could mean anything. Maybe like Paris he just though.....this is a pretty good deal...yeah sure Janeway ignores my opinion and Tuvok thinks i'm a dick...but what the hell, i'm second in command on a sleek sexy new starship....i'll take it

I suspect a few of the Maquis probably felt relief at being in the Delta quadrant.....a chance at a new life

I have to agree here. It was wrong to leave Chakotay, the second in command out of this. It was as if Janeway and Tuvok didn't trust him.

I like Tuvok and Vulcans but for being a Vulcan who surpresses their emotions, Tuvok had some flaws. Like his open dislike for Neelix and his distrust and maybe envy of Chakotay.

My least favorite thing about Tuvok was how they tried to do the Odd Couple thing with Neelix. That felt cheap and sitcommish and usually led to bad episodes.

It's important to remember that Chakotay was a real Starfleet officer before he ever joined the Maquis. Unlike many of those who served on the Val Jean, he didn't start out as a Maquis. That alone makes a lot of difference.

Janeway was hoping that Chakotay would take out Tom so she wouldn't have to deal with his wisecracks at the helm anymore.

Well, they unknowingly escaped the slaughter by the Dominion, that way. As McCoy once said :"...turn death into a fighting chance to live..."
