Monday 11th
The Devil and Miss Carew,
An alien with an aversion to electricity threatens to take Earth back to the dark ages.

Tuesday 12th
Submission,
A distress signal lures Jack, Gwen and Ianto to the deepest part of the ocean - the Mariana Trench. When their submarine crashes, they are trapped with a hungry alien.

Wednesday 13th
The House of the Dead
It's the last night at The House of the Dead, the most haunted pub in Wales, and Mrs Wintergreen is holding a seance. Then the ghosts start arriving, and all hell breaks loose.

NO UK TV pace spoilers.

Listening to the first episode now. It seems the podcast is only available in the UK.

I don't know if the previous radio plays (Lost Souls, Asylum, The Golden Age, The Dead Line) are still available, though.

Having now heard The Devil and Miss Carew, I thought it was okbut only ok, I think this maybe because after Children of Earth the show returning to invidual episodes feels a bit of a let down.

All together it was fine, but no one thing shone for me, ever if I did think that was Fitzroy voiced by John Sergent.Fitzroy reminded me a bit of the Trickester from SJA, intersting that the people needed so shut down modern technology (those who created it, or at least those who worked in its advancement) were willing to live in a world where their work (or no further advancement) was no longer viable. I would have thought those people would want to die so the world can continue to advance it like they tried to.

Listened to today's.
Heh. They're in a submarine and they're on a mission. Hence "Submission." :guffaw:

You can use iPlayer for BBC Radio shows from anywhere in the world and record them as they stream, which is what I'm doing. (I'll probably buy the CDs once the price comes down a bit for the better quality, though.)

yeah that isnt where I thought they were going with the name, but did anyone else catch the name of the submarine?

I do like the idea of an episode set at the bottom of the ocean even if there was nothing totally amazing (but stil good) down there, its great how the team get to travel in these audio adventures.

Ianto still feels a little pointless, but I suspect that is to do with what we know of his future, but it was nice to know his past, and learn a bit more about Torchwood 1. Couldnt help but laugh at Jack saying "that was Torchwood 1, this is Torchwood 3" as if Torchwood 3 has a spot record, that said Torchwoow 1 did screw up royally.

I still want to see these done for Doctor Who.

I am listening to these on the podcast at work (should I need to pause) but also got a timer on my PVR, where ill listen to them a few more times, over the coming months.

episode 3 The House of the Dead is awesome, there is a twist that feels like a spoiler all by itself.

You should all go listen.

I'd rather guessed half of the twist right at the start, but the way it was used was very effective.

I was thinking we might "see" Gwyneth, which could have been confusing on radio, so whilst I was thinking about that the real twist took me by surprise. I did keep thinking about the fact Ianto was dead, but I didnt get the episode was set during CoE ep 5.

It feels ilke a spoiler even saying there is a twist.

All that said its a great episode (need to listen again before I do a proper review) and along with Dead Line, really adds to Children of Earth episode 4.

On a boring note, I like that whilst the first two episoes take place before Children of Earth, this one takes place of a gap in the timeline that was already filled.

They've been doing them for 12 years - Big Finish Productions has made about 150 audio/radio dramas featuring the original cast, many of which have been broadcast on BBC Radio, in particular several seasons of Eighth Doctor stories that actually shadowed the TV revival. One of the BBC stations recently finished broadcasting several Big Finish stories reuniting Peter Davison with Janet Fielding, Mark Strickson and Sarah Sutton.

If you mean with the current cast, odds are that's not likely to happen since they're focusing on things like the Adventures Games. But AudioGo has released a number of exclusive-to-audio stories read by Matt Smith and others.

I have heard one of the books being read, it doesnt work for me. I would like to see 11th Doctor episode with full cast on Radio 4.

I don't think that'll happen. Big Finish has the market locked down on that sort of production, especially now that it's in bed with AudioGO, and as long as the BBC doesn't want to unlock Doctors 9-11 for them, it'll be the first 8 Doctors who'll get that treatment.

At one point one of the audio books was supposed to be a two-hander with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. That never happened ultimately, but they might try again with a later release.

I found all three on iTunes, but am only able to download 13 seconds of each. I live in Los Angeles, so I'm guessing its a UK only thing right now?

Use a proxy server, my friend. :)

Step one. Dave Proxy. (I pasted in the wrong address last week.)

Step two. Paste this address into the Dave Proxy toolbar: http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/torchwood and Go. :)

This takes you to the BBC's podcast page for Torchwood, and all three stories are downloadable in full until tomorrow.
