Torchwood Planning Fourth Season

We pretty much already knew this, but confirmation from Russell T. Davies:

Torchwood might not have concluded its run at the end of the thrilling miniseries Children of Earth after all - Ianto’s tragic death not withstanding. The new year could bring some “very good news” for fans of the sexy sci-fi series, creator Russell T. Davies tells TV Guide Magazine.

“The recession has hit British television, but fingers crossed, it will be a go. We expect things to start to move in January. We’ve got great ideas for the show. I think there’s a further lease on life for many years to come, but certainly for a [fourth season],” Davies says. John Barrowman is finishing his run in “La Cage Aux Folles” in London, so there’s plenty of time to trade his feather boa for Captain Jack’s trench coat.

am I the only one who wants to see John Barrowman and his feather boa on Torchwood?

moving on we have still not had offical BBC conformation its been picked up for a 4th series, but this would seem to point to it now being offical

Well, that's encouraging.

Sorry, but no, it doesn't. It says that - as will always be the case unless the series had been officially cancelled, given the way TV now works - the work is in place to get going as soon as they get an official commission.
It is very hopeful, and I would be astonished if Torchwood doesn't get the OK to go ahead in January, but... Robin Hood had an entire new creative crew in place for season four, script commissions set up, and a new location base in Scotland scouted and optioned - but it still got the thumbs down.

I'd be amazed if Torchwood doesnt come backand in some shape or form, given CoE's high ratings and critical acclaim.

And this is the first we've heard of an actual start date for a future (mini)series so it does look hopeful. But i have to agree with Diankra, you never know with the BBC at the moment when money is involved. They'd rather commission another series of the ultracheap Holby City than an effects heavy sci-fi show like Torchwood.

I would very much welcome back Torchwood. Although with almost all the mains gone the vibe from the show will be completely different, soooooo. Maybe Captain Jack can cross over to the other universe reunite with Rose and pull the otherverse duplicates of Torchwood back. Well nice idea for a story anyway.

Great news. Children of Earth was great, hopefully season 4 of Torchwood will also be a shorter, more tightly focused like Children of Earth, that seems to work out so much better for the show then the first two seasons.

^While "Children of Earth" was great, it was perhaps a bit too intense. Not to mention parts 1 & 2 had a lot of filler. Personally, I'm ready for a break and a return to more stand-alone stories for Season 4. Intentionally trying to force another epic like "Children of Earth" will not end well.

My thinking is they should start over with an all new group working out of Torchwood-Scotland. (I've wanted to see that "peculiar Scotsman" ever since Jack first mentioned him in "Everything Changes.") Perhaps include Gwen but that would be it at the beginning. As for Jack's return, I think it should be handled somewhat like Angel's return during the 3rd season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (In the 1st 2 episodes of the season, Angel only appeared in Buffy's dream sequences. He didn't properly return until the closing seconds of episode 3. And even then, Buffy was the only one who knew that he was back. The rest of the gang didn't find out until episode 7.)

I must admit,I was getting a bit bored of TW during the second season, as Jack/ Barrowman was getting on my tits. But COE was just so bloody amazing, I'd be gutted if the show didn't return. Roll on S.4.
