Top CTV anchor Lloyd Robertson to retire next year

Dusty Ayres

Commodore
Lloyd Robertson still has a lot of good nights ahead of him on television, but come the middle of next year as anchor of CTV National News, it really will be Good Night. The veteran newscaster – a staple in Canadian living rooms for almost 35 years – announced his retirement at the end of Thursday’s newscast. In an emotional and sincere signoff, Robertson showed a clip of his initial 1976 appearance on the CTV News, doing “what everyone thought was unthinkable” by jumping from the public broadcaster CBC to a private network.
Robertson will go out as the longest serving network anchor in North America.
“There comes a time and this is it! I want to leave a suitable period for my successor to have a smooth and seamless transition,” said Robertson in a statement. “While I’ll be hoisting anchor next year, I’ll be continuing at CTV for some time.”
While the 76-year-old will step down as the chief anchor and senior editor of CTV News with Lloyd Robertson, he will continue on at the network, a role that includes co-hosting current affairs series W5.

^Same here. It must be working at CTV that did it-no sense of entitlement that says, 'I'm from the motherfucking CBC, bow before me and be my bitch'! (although, to be fair, Jian Ghomeshi doesn't act that way.)
