top babylon 5 books

Off topic sidebar: Shame Farscape didn't get more novels. The 2 I read (I believe only 2 were published) were very true to the characters, and were just as good as watching an episode

No, there were three of that also. But that case was special in that the first book was not a novelization of the pilot episode. I don't know why. Probably because it was only an hour long show.

^There are lots of tie-in lines that do not include pilot novelizations, including the two I mentioned in my last post. Generally a pilot novelization only happens if the tie-in line starts up around the same time the show does, but these days it's fairly common for publishers to wait a few years before deciding to take a chance on a tie-in line -- which is part of why so many tie-ins these days come out after the series has ended and therefore don't last very long.

The first Farscape novel was House of Cards by our own KRAD, who later went on to script the canonical Farscape comics plotted by Rockne S. O'Bannon.

In my opinion the three trilogies (Psi Corp, Centari, and Techno Mage) are the best and most important reads. As I understand it, JMS had the history and future of B5 mapped out a couple hundred years in both directions from the series and these 3 series draw directly from those. I love all 3 for different reasons:

Psi Corp really delves into Bester as a character and the history of the Psi Corp is a lot of fun.
Centauri trilogy continues the story left open after the 5th season and gets us to that final Londo-Gkar scene that was always teased.
Technomages - For the same reasons said by Christopher and for Galen.

Actually JMS had it mapped out in detail 1,000 years in each direction, and rough sketch of 1,000,000.

To Dream in the City of Sorrows is fantastic, because it explains what Sinclair is doing between end of S1 and when we see him again later in the Series. Marcus and Catherine Sakai also appear in the book :bolian:

The Shadow Within is great, because it fills in the story of the Icarus and Anna and Morden. The little we got in the Series proper left me wanting more, and this provided it.
