Top 25 Toronto Films

The title refers to the top 25 films made about and set in Toronto, not filmed in Toronto but set in another city...

Though Toronto has long been “Hollywood North,” tax incentives and its sense of placelessness allowing it to pass as one or another substitute city, it’s just as long struggled to define itself on screen. While we host one of the biggest film fests in the world and produce most of the country’s film and TV, we don’t like to toot our car – or bicycle – horns.

To mark this, we put together a list of films that use Toronto to say something about Toronto. Coming up with it has been almost as hard as defining the city itself. We chose and ranked them based on quality, use of local talent and familiar landmarks and, well, some mysterious Hogtown quality.
