Top 10 eco-friendly nations named

I know that the devil we have right now sucks. So why not get a new one?

Anyways, I imagine a huge part of the reason why Canada is where it is on that list is because of the oil sands.

I'm not surprised Britain doesn't feature in the top ten, a Britain who, rather than deal with its own recycling, ships it to places like Malaysia and Nigeria, where it sits in huge heaps. So, our trash - other people's problem. To think they fly it half-way across the world, and then dump it on top of people who are too poor to dispose of it properly.

Norway earns a high spot for being first home to the world’s largest solar production plant, owned by REC Group. They have also taken emissions seriously, now planning on becoming carbon neutral by 2030, not 2050 as originally expected, in major part by funding green projects abroad and reducing at home driving and flying.

WOW! i'm impressed with Norway, they have access to abundent natural gas and oil in the north sea and on top of this they'll be carbon neutral. Norway is going to be the richest, cleanest most prosperous country in the world.

I always wondered about these lists. Not about the Countries themsevles, I'm sure they are very "Green", but the way the lists are derived.

For a simple example....

Do these "Green" countries with limited coal mining and oil production, without major steel production and other heavy manufacturing, get points deducted for buying and importing those products from the less "Green" or even "Brown" countries?

Hummmm...

The populations of those countries are tiny in comparison to most others so it does not surprise they are more "eco-friendly".

I'm surprised we're not further down, given our high levels of consumption of everything.

Well I'll admit many of the Nordic countries are eco-friendly, but they aren't always price friendly.

I met a Norwegian shopkeeper who apologized to me for the high cost of basic goods in Norway last summer.

However, I do know they take eco-friendly policies seriously.

Wtf? We're supposed to be "free" of fossile fuels in 2020? Don't see how the hell that's gonna work, and unless they give me something to convert my car from gasoline without making into a meak elelxtric car, I'm moving!

9. Colombia
Beating Costa Rica, Colombia is home to 10% of the world’s species...

5 - Costa Rica
I think that remark is specific to biodiversity:

Costa Rica:
With 5% of the world’s biodiversity...

Colombia:
Beating Costa Rica, Colombia is home to 10% of the world’s species, with a wealth of ecological diversity

Ah, OK

Doesn't Costa Rica have a horrible reputation when it comes to deforestation?

Interesting that so many in the top 10 are northern European countries.

I've lived in Finland, its amazing how eco-friendly they are. For example, you have to buy plastic bags, but they are thick and reusable. You pretty much have to recycle bottles, because you get so much money back for them. Their public transportation is great, even out in the country, so most people choose to commute.
